PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Calvin Carr (ranked 7036 p4p, 0 weight class) and True Gee (ranked 5307 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Calvin Carr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, True Gee!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, David Schapiro and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gee shoots in and bounces Carr off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Gee wants to stand and escape but instead Carr has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Carr wants to control from the top but Gee keeps moving.
Gee throws a couple of heel strikes.
Gee throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gee wants to sweep but no luck.
Gee striking off his back but it's not causing Carr any problems.
Gee really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Carr. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Carr controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carr passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Gee is looking to reverse the position.
Carr is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Gee's shoulder. That is not cool.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Gee can't do much from the bottom here.

Carr has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Gee tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Carr defends well and Gee ends up having to push Carr into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Carr went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
No luck for Carr with that takedown attempt.
Gee goes for a double leg but Carr avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Carr continues to drive forward.

Carr closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Gee wants to stand back up but Carr manages to pass into side control.

Carr decides to stand back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gee forces Carr back against the cage and clinches.
Carr is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Calvin Carr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of True Gee.
With the fighters up against the cage, Gee throws an elbow but misses.
Gee is trying to force a seperation but Carr has the dominant position.
Gee wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Carr wants to get back to striking at distance but Gee won't allow it.
Gee jumps guard but Carr turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Gee jumps guard but Carr stands there with Gee around his waist. Gee gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Gee looks winded!
Carr tries to break free but Gee pushes him back against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Carr breaks the clinch.
Gee shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Carr pinned against the cage. Carr gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Carr looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Gee feints the counter takedown.
Gee tries to clinch but Carr moves away
and Carr counters with a left and a right that stings Gee.
Some bone on bone action there as Gee checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gee tries a head kick but it misses.

Carr pushes Gee up against the cage in a clinch.
Gee is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Calvin Carr dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Gee tries to clinch up.
Carr shoots in but no luck this time.
Gee now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Gee wants to clinch.
As Gee looks to move away, Carr throws a big counter combo but Gee just gets out of the way.
Carr swats away the attempt to clinch by Gee.
Carr keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Carr throws a counter high kick but Gee was just alert enough to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carr fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Carr is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gee can do to turn this around?
Gee swats away the attempt to clinch by Carr.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gee goes for a double leg but Carr avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Carr continues to drive forward.
As Gee backs away, Carr returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Calvin Carr is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nice takedown defense from Gee. No joy for Carr on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Calvin Carr. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A looping hook to the body misses from Gee. Carr does a little dance to reset his feet.

Carr takes the fight into the clinch.
Carr tries to break the clinch but Gee is controlling the position.
Gee jumps guard but Carr stands there with Gee around his waist. Gee gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Carr wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Gee has him pressed against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gee looking for a takedown.
Gee has Carr pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Carr manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Gee can't break the clinch.
Carr stops a takedown attempt from Gee.
Gee is breathing heavily.

Gee breaks from the clinch.
A good leg kick by Carr.
Gee shoots for a double leg takedown but Carr sprawls well. He's pushed Gee's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Carr tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Gee swivels and escapes.

Carr gets a double leg takedown into Gee's guard.

Gee throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Carr escapes and throws Gee's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Carr working the head with strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carr controlling the position from side mount.
Carr working the ground and pound.
Carr has control of an arm but Gee manages to advance to Carr's back!
Carr turns into Gee and is now in his guard.
Carr will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Carr engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Carr gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Gee darts in trying to clinch
and Carr counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Gee gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Gee wants to get back to his feet but Carr passes into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Calvin Carr dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!



Excellent takedown into side control there by Carr.
Gee can't do much from the bottom here.

Carr stands up.

Carr gets tackled into the cage by Gee. Gee maintains the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gee breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Gee closes this distance looking for a takedown but Carr circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gee shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Carr as he avoids it easily.
Gee takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Carr looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Gee is looking to stand back up but Carr counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Gee.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carr controlling the pace.
Gee trying to control but Carr postures up.

Carr is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gee defends it well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gee taking some punishment here, with Carr in his half guard.
Carr is controlling the pace.
Gee wants to sweep but Carr has passed to side control!
Gee regains half guard, as Carr was trying to land strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carr is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Carr prevents Gee from standing back up.
Gee keeping control of the position.
Carr controlling the action here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Gee trying to control here.

Carr looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Gee has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Carr is working away from the top position though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Calvin Carr showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Carr has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
