PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Esteban Casillas (ranked 6340 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Villa (ranked 3662 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Esteban Casillas has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Esteban Casillas seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Juan Villa!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Chad Campbell and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Casillas moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Villa misses with a jab, cross combination.
A head kick by Villa misses
and Casillas counters with a nice body shot.

Villa moves into the clinch.

Villa successfully pulls guard.

Villa is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Casillas trying to control but Villa is working from the bottom.
Casillas looking to pass the guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Villa is pulling down on Casillas's head. It's preventing any offense from Casillas, at least for the moment.
Casillas has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Villa manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Casillas manages to get himself to full guard.

No joy there for Villa, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Casillas dives in for a single leg takedown but Villa sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Villa closes the distance and clinches up with Casillas, looking for a takedown. Villa pushes Casillas against the cage but Casillas circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Villa sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Casillas's guard.

Villa throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Villa passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Casillas!

Casillas is just holding on here. Villa manages to take his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Villa is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Casillas knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Casillas for a finish.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Casillas wants to get back to his feet.
Villa has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Villa throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Villa has good solid back control here.
Let's hope that Villa has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Villa's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Villa is looking for the choke from the back position but Casillas is controlling his hands well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Juan Villa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Villa.

Villa shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Casillas napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Casillas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Villa on the ground.
Villa misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Villa decides to stand up, so the ref orders Casillas to his feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Casillas or perhaps it was just good defense by Villa, which made it look bad.

Casillas changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Villa tries to avoid it but Casillas manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Villa to the ground. Villa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Esteban Casillas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Juan Villa is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Casillas srikes from the bottom but he's lost position and has given up his back.
