PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between War Machine (ranked 3310 p4p, 380 weight class) and Sterling Archer (ranked 5558 p4p, 0 weight class). Archer has chosen No Church In The Wild - Kanye West as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, War Machine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sterling Archer!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Radbod Blank and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A decent looking cross lands there for Archer.
Sterling Archer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Archer will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Machine shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Machine ducks under a wild hook from Archer.
Machine tried to counter with a leg kick but Archer avoided it.

Machine tries to sprawl but Archer drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Machine is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Machine works his way to full guard. Good work.

Machine had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Archer defends it easily.
Archer looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
It looks like Archer might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Machine looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Archer is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Archer is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Machine sees it coming and defends easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Archer is looking to pass Machine's guard but actually Machine recovers to full guard.
Archer controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Archer drops back, looking for a kneebar! Machine looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Machine looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Machine!


Machine swings around for an armbar but Archer sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Machine's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sterling Archer dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Machine moves away from the strike by Archer.
Archer tries a low kick but Machine avoids it.
Machine tries to counter with a takedown but Archer is quick to defend against it.
Archer keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Archer missing with a left hand there. Machine was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Archer throws a right hand that misses
and Machine counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Machine goes for a double leg but Archer avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Archer continues to drive forward.
Archer slaps away a takedown attempt from Machine, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for War Machine. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Archer throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Machine blocks a jab.
Archer throws a body kick that misses
and Machine counters with a two punch combo.
Archer throws a leg kick but Machine sees it coming and moves out of range.
Machine is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Archer.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Archer scores with a body shot.
Horrible takedown attempt by Machine or perhaps it was just good defense by Archer, which made it look bad.

Archer feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Machine wriggles free and stands up.
Machine wants to clinch.
Archer scores with a jab to the head.

Archer drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Archer tries to move to mount but Machine blocks the move with his legs.
A lull in the action here as Archer stalls from top position.
Machine is trying to improve his position.
Machine is being controlled here.

Archer is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Machine has escaped the position, nice work there.
Archer is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Archer is continuing to stall.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Archer has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Let's hope that Archer has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Archer scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Machine to see if he's OK.
Archer is staying tight to Machine's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Machine tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Archer wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Archer swings around for an armbar but Machine sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Archer's guard.
Archer lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Archer controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Archer works his way into full mount!

Archer swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Sterling Archer!
Our winner, Sterling Archer, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
