PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hassan Al Jazeera (ranked 5190 p4p, 0 weight class) and Samuel Song (ranked 3899 p4p, 0 weight class). Song has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jazeera darts in looking for a takedown but Song gets double underhooks and turns Jazeera into the cage.

Song looking to score a takedown here. Jazeera is defending well but Song drives through and ends up in Jazeera's guard.

Jazeera throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Song throws a big elbow that misses.
Jazeera looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Song pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jazeera is keeping the position for now.
Song is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jazeera is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Danga de danga de dang - Jazeera scores with a four punch combination!
Song misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Jazeera goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Song shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jazeera's guard.

Song decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jazeera, up you get!
Jazeera stuns Song with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Song swats away the attempt to clinch by Jazeera.
Song with the counter takedown but Jazeera avoids it easily.

Jazeera shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Song but Song pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Jazeera sets himself, and Song steps forward looking for the clinch! Jazeera avoids it this time.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jazeera throws a leg kick which misses Song's front leg but catches the back leg as Song tries to avoid it.
Song keeps the fight on the outside.

Song manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Jazeera on his heels. He'll look to pass Jazeera's guard now, I'm sure.

Song postures up in Jazeera's guard and throws a big left but Jazeera blocks it.
Song's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Jazeera has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Song is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Jazeera.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Song working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
A lull in the action here.
Jazeera is trying to work for a sweep but Song has mounted him!

Song closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Song lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Song is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Jazeera is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Jazeera not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Song stands up from Jazeera's guard - Song perhaps looking for a knockout.
Jazeera throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Song.
Jazeera tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Song swivels and escapes.
Hassan Al Jazeera is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Song bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Jazeera is looking to get back to his feet here but Song is keeping cool and he's managed to take Jazeera's back.
Well, with Song on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Jazeera is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
