Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Edmond Booker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Aleksi Toivonen!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Marco Blurström and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Toivonen looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Toivonen prevents Booker from improving his position.
Ground and pound from Toivonen.
Toivonen blocks the strikes from Booker.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Booker wants to get back to full guard.
Toivonen wants to stand but Booker has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Toivonen prevents Booker from improving his position.

Toivonen takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Booker tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Booker shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Toivonen pinned against the cage. Toivonen gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Nice takedown defense from Booker. No joy for Toivonen on that attempt.
Toivonen fails to land with a series of punches.
Booker changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Toivonen misses with a few strikes there.
Booker is trying hard to land a takedown here. Toivonen sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Toivonen pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Toivonen drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Booker might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Booker regains half guard.

Toivonen is working for a kimura but Booker is defending it quite comfortably.
Toivonen tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Toivonen looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Booker tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Toivonen defends well and Booker ends up having to push Toivonen into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Toivonen bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Booker's head.
Toivonen has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Toivonen fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Booker to the ground. Toivonen is now in Booker's guard.
Toivonen tries to free his leg and advance position but Booker is retaining full guard.

Booker throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Booker had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Toivonen defends it easily.

Toivonen stands up over Booker, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Booker could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Toivonen sitting in guard here, content to control.
Booker can't keep his opponent in guard - Toivonen advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Toivonen lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Toivonen uses his free foot to push down on Booker's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Booker.

Toivonen goes for an armbar but Booker turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Booker.

Toivonen is pulling down on Booker's head. It's preventing any offense from Booker, at least for the moment.
Booker trying to stand up but can't free himself from Toivonen's guard.
Toivonen wants to sweep but no luck.

Toivonen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Booker doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Booker manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Booker has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Toivonen is proving hard to escape from.
Toivonen looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Booker wants to stand but Toivonen is controlling his posture from full guard.

Booker decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Toivonen, up you get!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Booker misses with a takedown attempt - Toivonen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Toivonen moves into the clinch.

Toivonen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Toivonen moves into range and clinches up with Booker.

Toivonen's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Booker is trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aleksi Toivonen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Booker's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


Toivonen misses with a leg kick

and Booker counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Toivonen wants to sweep but no luck.
Booker wants to get up but he can't break Toivonen's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Toivonen is trying to hold Booker in close to prevent damage but Booker has managed to pass into half guard.

Booker wants to work for an arm triangle but Toivonen is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Toivonen is controlling Booker's position as best he can from this difficult position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Booker not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Toivonen is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Booker pulls his head out easily.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Toivonen fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Booker, pushing him back against the cage.
Toivonen misses with a body punch.
Toivonen jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Booker walks away with a smile on his face. Toivonen gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Toivonen looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Toivonen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Toivonen is working for a kimura but Booker is defending it quite comfortably.

Booker tries to roll over but Toivonen keeps him under control.

Booker actively working from the bottom here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Toivonen wants to stand up but Booker is controlling the position.

Toivonen is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Toivonen tries to pass to full mount but Booker defends it.
Edmond Booker has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Aleksi Toivonen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Edmond Booker.
Well Toivonen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
