PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Liangchan Xiaodong (ranked 5105 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Greenwood (ranked 5022 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Greenwood decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Greenwood is working for a kimura but Xiaodong is defending it quite comfortably.
Xiaodong wants to improve his position but Greenwood is controlling well.
Xiaodong preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Xiaodong is staying active underneath Greenwood, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Greenwood throws a left and a right that both miss
and Xiaodong connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Greenwood escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Greenwood tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Xiaodong takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Xiaodong goes for a takedown attempt but Greenwood pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Xiaodong is trying to stall.
Xiaodong tries a body shot but Greenwood blocks it.
Greenwood's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Greenwood drops down looking for an ankle pick but Xiaodong pulls his leg out and moves away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Greenwood is defended easily by Xiaodong.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Xiaodong shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Greenwood napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Xiaodong is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Xiaodong is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Greenwood is just riding it out for now. Xiaodong eventually gives up the hold.
Xiaodong has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Xiaodong takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Greenwood really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Xiaodong. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Xiaodong seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Greenwood does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Greenwood is looking to control Xiaodong's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Greenwood avoid being mounted?

As Xiaodong backs off Greenwood throws a huge counter combo but Xiaodong manages to avoid it all.

Greenwood keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Greenwood fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Xiaodong, pushing him back against the cage.
Greenwood tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Xiaodong smiles and moves away.

Some bone on bone action there as Xiaodong checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Xiaodong drives through and clinches with Greenwood against the cage.
Greenwood tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

A solid leg kick lands there for Xiaodong.

Xiaodong has a couple of punches blocked by Greenwood.
Xiaodong tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Greenwood just stands there and leans against the cage.
Greenwood has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Xiaodong after a bit of a struggle.

Xiaodong is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Greenwood can't fight it off and eventually Xiaodong manages to take the fight to the floor. Greenwood looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Greenwood has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Xiaodong can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Liangchan Xiaodong overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Greenwood lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Xiaodong looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Xiaodong is pulling down on Greenwood's head. It's preventing any offense from Greenwood, at least for the moment.
Xiaodong keeping full guard, as Greenwood tries to pass.
Xiaodong bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Greenwood's guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Liangchan Xiaodong.
I think Xiaodong has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
