Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ray Smith (ranked 4803 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ed Erickson (ranked 3966 p4p, 0 weight class). Erickson has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Ray Smith could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Ed Erickson's chin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A lazy body kick from Smith
and Erickson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Erickson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Smith manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Smith attempts a counter takedown but Erickson avoids it well and moves away.
Smith throws a body kick that misses.
Erickson looks to land a combination but Smith avoids it well.

Erickson tries to kick Smith off in order to stand up. Smith Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Erickson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Erickson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Smith has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Erickson is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Smith yanks on the arm and Erickson is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Smith.
