PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Oswaldo Jarvis (ranked 7248 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Azevedo (ranked 6433 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Daniel Azevedo!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Edson Gomes and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Azevedo tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Jarvis defends well and Azevedo ends up having to push Jarvis into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Azevedo takes the fight into the clinch.
Jarvis works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Jarvis tries for a takedown but Azevedo manages to get underhooks.
Jarvis lands a hook that snaps the head of Azevedo backwards.
Jarvis tries to break free but Azevedo pushes him back against the cage.

Azevedo breaks from the clinch.

Azevedo moves into range and clinches up with Jarvis.
Azevedo wants to take the fight to the mat but Jarvis manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Azevedo is working Jarvis over against the cage.
Jarvis could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Azevedo breaks the clinch.

Azevedo clinches up with Jarvis and pushes him back against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Azevedo has taken the fight to the clinch.
Azevedo tries to pull guard but Jarvis forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Oswaldo Jarvis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Azevedo.

Jarvis gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Jarvis decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Azevedo has closed the distance and engaged Jarvis in a clinch.
Jarvis takes a shot to the head.
Azevedo throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Jarvis blocks it with crossed arms.

Jarvis pulls guard effortlessly.

Jarvis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Azevedo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Azevedo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Jarvis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Azevedo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Azevedo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Azevedo would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Azevedo stands up and waves to Jarvis to follow him.
Jarvis avoids a kick to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Azevedo shoots in for a takedown but Jarvis shows good takedown defense.

Azevedo forces Jarvis back against the cage and clinches.
Azevedo crunches a lovely knee into Jarvis's ribcage.
Azevedo is looking to control Jarvis's arms but Jarvis gets an underhook and turns him. Now Azevedo has his back to the cage.

Jarvis tries to pull guard but Azevedo holds him up against the cage and eventually Jarvis drops back down to his feet.

Jarvis is breathing heavily.
Azevedo lands a body shot in the clinch.
Azevedo trying to control the position but instead, Jarvis has worked for underhooks and has pushed Azevedo into the cage.
Jarvis takes a knee to the side of the body.

Azevedo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Azevedo darts in and clinches Jarvis up against the cage.
Azevedo landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

Azevedo fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Azevedo lands with a nice combination. Jarvis backs away looking to recover.


It looks like Oswaldo Jarvis has been cut.

Azevedo closes the distance and clinches.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Azevedo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Azevedo shoots in but Jarvis avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Azevedo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jarvis as he jumps to the side.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Azevedo jumps guard and drags Jarvis to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Azevedo throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Jarvis is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Jarvis is in close to Azevedo's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Azevedo wants to get back to his feet but Jarvis passes into half guard.

Jarvis stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Azevedo to get to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Azevedo darts in and clinches Jarvis up against the cage.

Jarvis has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Azevedo clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Azevedo is trying to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Azevedo dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Oswaldo Jarvis's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!



Azevedo gets a clinch.
A head punch on the inside from Jarvis fails to land.
Jarvis wants a takedown.

Azevedo breaks the clinch.

Azevedo drives through and clinches with Jarvis against the cage.
Jarvis misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Azevedo.
Nice body punch from Azevedo.
Jarvis tries to pull guard but Azevedo forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Azevedo has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jarvis avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Azevedo tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Jarvis avoids it.

Azevedo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Azevedo clinches.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A frustrated look appears on Jarvis's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Azevedo takes the fight into the clinch.
Azevedo with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Azevedo is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Jarvis is keeping busy.

Azevedo breaks the clinch.
Jarvis takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Azevedo rushes Jarvis and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Jarvis misses with a knee strike.

Jarvis has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Azevedo uses from the top position.

Jarvis had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Azevedo defends it easily.
Azevedo wants to control from the top but Jarvis keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Azevedo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Azevedo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Jarvis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Azevedo wants to stand back up but Jarvis manages to pass into side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Azevedo trying to control but Jarvis flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

Jarvis working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Azevedo is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Jarvis has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Azevedo taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Oswaldo Jarvis!
