PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Arlie Holt (ranked 6574 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brady Wynne (ranked 3352 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Arlie Holt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brady Wynne!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, John Kavanagh and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Holt tries to sprawl but Wynne drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Holt is refusing to be controlled, as Wynne sits in half guard.
Wynne tries to stand but can't do so whilst Holt controls his leg.
Holt controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wynne is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Holt gets back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wynne stops Holt from standing up.
Holt keeping moving, preventing Wynne from controlling successfully.
Holt pulls Wynne in close to his closed guard and prevents Wynne from doing any damage or advancing position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Wynne tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Holt paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Wynne throws the kick towards the body but Holt avoids it.

and Holt counters with a single leg into guard. Wynne didn't expect that.

Holt is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Holt has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Wynne looking for subs off his back but Holt has passed one foot through into half guard.
Holt will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Holt is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Wynne defends it well.
Wynne tries to kick Holt off but Holt keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Holt is taking a breather. Wynne says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Wynne has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Holt is working away from the top position though.

Holt seems to be looking for submissions.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Wynne wants to improve his position but Holt is controlling well.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Wynne won't allow Holt to pass to mount.

Wynne makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Wynne.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Holt's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Wynne is looking to control Holt's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Wynne avoid being mounted?
Wynne tries to get to full guard but Holt has control of the leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Holt is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Wynne doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Holt.

Holt decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Wynne throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Holt tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Wynne is in Holt's guard.

Holt bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wynne's guard.

Wynne had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Holt defends it easily.

Holt wants to get up but he can't break Wynne's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Holt slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Holt drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Wynne dives on top into guard.

Holt is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Holt is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Wynne can do to turn this around?

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Holt moves into the clinch successfully.
Wynne tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Holt's elbow.
Holt is trying to break the clinch but Wynne is controlling him.
Holt lands an uppercut.
Wynne landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Holt is pressing down on Wynne's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Wynne postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Holt is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Wynne, into his guard.

Wynne has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Holt has passed into side control.
Holt really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Holt wants to control but Wynne is keeping him busy.
Wynne wants to get back to his feet but Holt drags him back down.
Holt grinds an elbow into Wynne's temple.

Holt tries for a kimura but Wynne is defending well.

Holt swings around for an armbar but Wynne sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Holt's guard.

Wynne looking to sit in guard and control but Holt gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Wynne is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Holt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wynne swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Holt lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Holt is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Holt thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Holt got a little sloppy there for a moment and Wynne has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Holt has managed to get both his arms back between Wynne's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Wynne instigates a clinch.

Holt pulls guard successfully.
Wynne preventing the sweep.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Wynne is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Holt is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Holt has escaped and now he's on top!

Brady Wynne has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Arlie Holt is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Holt controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Holt, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
