PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mathew Yang (ranked 24255 p4p, 0 weight class) and Syd The Scorpion (ranked 3379 p4p, 0 weight class). The Scorpion has chosen "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)" as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mathew Yang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Syd The Scorpion!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yang tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Yang defends well against a solid takedown attempt from The Scorpion.
Yang looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
The Scorpion has a takedown stuffed.

The Scorpion drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The referee asks The Scorpion politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. The Scorpion prefers to stall for the moment though.

The Scorpion decides to stand back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The Scorpion dives in for a single leg takedown but Yang sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Mathew Yang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Syd The Scorpion.

The Scorpion tries to pull guard but Yang won't allow it.

The Scorpion ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. The Scorpion no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Yang gets to his feet. The Scorpion looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

The Scorpion has taken the fight to the clinch.

The Scorpion trying to control but Yang is working from the bottom.

Yang looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The Scorpion would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Yang has a closed guard, preventing The Scorpion from standing up.

The Scorpion gets to his feet - Yang follows without any prompting.

Yang tries to pull guard but The Scorpion forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Yang is looking for a takedown up against the cage. The Scorpion gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

The Scorpion gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Yang is trying to defend against the ground and pound but The Scorpion scores with a couple of nice shots.

The Scorpion looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Yang with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Syd The Scorpion dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



The Scorpion fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Yang, pushing him back against the cage.
The Scorpion lands a body punch.

The Scorpion manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The Scorpion avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The Scorpion looking to hit a scissor sweep but Yang is one step ahead there.
Yang throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The Scorpion has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Yang can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The Scorpion is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Yang chips away with some ground and pound.

The Scorpion escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Yang gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Yang decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The Scorpion bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The Scorpion is breathing heavily.

The Scorpion swings around for an armbar but Yang sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into The Scorpion's guard.
Yang lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The Scorpion throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Yang controls from within his opponent's guard.
Yang throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The Scorpion has momentary wrist control but Yang slips an elbow through the middle.
Yang postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The Scorpion doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

The Scorpion working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Yang doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but The Scorpion is tightening it up a little... Yang has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Yang reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Yang taps out! Nice BJJ there by The Scorpion!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Syd The Scorpion!
After winning the bout, Syd The Scorpion thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
