Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bryant French (ranked 24063 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ian Tavares (ranked 5117 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bryant French!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ian Tavares!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

French closes the distance and pushes Tavares back into the cage.
French can't break the clinch.
French wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Tavares has French pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Tavares pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending French tumbling to the mat - Tavares dives into French's guard.
French trying to keep a closed guard but Tavares is proving a slippery customer.
French tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Tavares avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tavares is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

French is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Tavares slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
French tried to score with a low kick but Tavares checks it.
Tavares tries to counter with a clinch but French shakes him off and moves away.
French lands a head kick. Tavares smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
French shoots for a takedown but Tavares saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Tavares leaves French with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Tavares unleashes a big counter combination but French bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

French forces Tavares back against the cage and clinches.
French tries to break free but Tavares pushes him back against the cage.
French tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Tavares avoids it.

Tavares gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, French regains guard.
Tavares controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

French is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Tavares looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Tavares must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
It looks like Tavares might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

French is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Tavares content to stall in guard here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
French tries to land a front kick but Tavares steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
French throws a head kick that misses.
Tavares with the counter takedown but French avoids it easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
French throws a leg kick that is checked

and Tavares counters with a single leg into guard. French didn't expect that.
French can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Tavares controls the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ian Tavares will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


French looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
French tries for a takedown but Tavares sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

French gets in close and instigates a clinch.
French has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

French escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

French clinches with his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tavares gets a trip takedown into half guard.

French looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Tavares perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

French makes his way to full guard. A much better position for French.
Tavares stops French from standing up.

French looking for a guillotine here but Tavares defends easily.
Tavares engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
French wants to sweep but no luck.
Tavares is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

French clinches up against the cage.
French is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
French is struggling to control the position.

French escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

French throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Tavares is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

French rushes Tavares and presses him up against the cage.

Tavares lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

French tries to get to full guard but Tavares has control of the leg.
French wants to get back to his feet.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

French has Tavares up against the cage in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bryant French dominated that second round.
That's time! French's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


French misses with a takedown attempt - Tavares sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A countering left hand to the body from Tavares misses.
French shoots in but no luck this time.
Tavares wants to counter with a clinch but French pushes him away.
Tavares avoids a kick to the body.
Bryant French seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
French pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Bryant French is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Tavares blocks the body kick.

and Tavares counters with a lovely shot to the body.

French is trying to stall.
French wants to stall.
French is looking to control Tavares's arms but Tavares gets an underhook and turns him. Now French has his back to the cage.

Tavares is trying to trip French. He has hold of a leg but French is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Tavares persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Tavares controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

French is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Tavares is aware though and is defending well.

French has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Tavares can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Tavares is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

French is looking for a triangle here but Tavares uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

French tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Tavares is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down French's shoulder. That is not cool.
Tavares's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
French is trying to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Tavares moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
A head kick by French misses
enabling Tavares to counter with a crisp jab.
French misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
French really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

French drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ian Tavares comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Tavares has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
