PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Samuel Daniels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mo Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daniels comes to the cage accompanied by King Without A Crown by Matisyahu. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lewis shoots in and bounces Daniels off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Lewis is stalling in the full guard.
Lewis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Daniels swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Daniels looking to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Daniels controlling the position.
Lewis showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Lewis trying to stand up but can't free himself from Daniels's guard.
Daniels looking for a sweep. Not yet Daniels, not yet.
Daniels managing to control the position.

Daniels not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Daniels is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Lewis missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Daniels is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Daniels is controlling the pace.
Daniels is pressing down on Lewis's thigh, looking to free his foot. Lewis is holding on for now.
Daniels throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Daniels seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lewis tries to roll over but Daniels keeps him under control.
Daniels is taking a breather. Lewis says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Lewis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Daniels is working away from the top position though.
Daniels wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lewis keeps working.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Daniels content to control rather than advance.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Samuel Daniels just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Daniels tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lewis swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Samuel Daniels is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Daniels tries to clinch but Lewis is having none of it.
Daniels lands with a kick to the temple. Lewis shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Lewis gets a clinch.
Daniels lands a nice elbow.
Lewis jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Daniels walks away with a smile on his face. Lewis gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Daniels wants to clinch but Lewis slips to the side

and Lewis counters by clinching up.
Lewis managing to block the knees to the body from Daniels.
Daniels creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Daniels crunches a lovely knee into Lewis's ribcage.
Lewis blocks an uppercut.
Daniels pushes off an throws an elbow but Lewis leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Knees in the clinch landing for Daniels.
Lewis looks gassed!
Daniels misses with an elbow strike.
Lewis blocks the elbow strike.
The is referee keeping an eye on Daniels - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Daniels is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Lewis is keeping busy.

Lewis takes an elbow to the temple.
Daniels lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Daniels just leaning against Lewis, taking a breather.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Daniels.
Lewis wants to break the clinch but can't.
Daniels lands an elbow just above Lewis 's eye.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Daniels stalls.
Daniels with a knee to the head.
Lewis has had enough of the clinch but Daniels keeps him there for the moment.
Lewis tries to score a body lock takedown but Daniels shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Daniels stalling against the cage.
Daniels is trying to maintain a safe position but Lewis gets an underhook and turns Daniels into the cage.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Samuel Daniels.
Daniels darts in trying to clinch

and Lewis counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Daniels's guard now.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lewis postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Samuel Daniels will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Daniels wants to clinch

Daniels can't do much from the bottom here.
Lewis just content to control the position.

Daniels seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lewis does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Lewis is not content to let Daniels control the position.

Daniels wants to clinch but Lewis slips to the side

and Lewis counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Daniels's guard now.

Lewis is looking to get to half guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lewis is trying desperately to improve position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mo Lewis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


Lewis circles away from the clinch attempt

so Lewis counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Daniels preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Lewis trying to control but Daniels is working from the bottom.
Daniels is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Daniels can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Lewis controls the pace.

Daniels scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Lewis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Daniels's waist but Daniels gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lewis off to one side.
Lewis shoots in for a double leg but Daniels sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

and Lewis counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Daniels could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Lewis takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Daniels not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Daniels wants to stand and escape but Lewis is having none of it.
Daniels is controlling Lewis's posture.
Daniels bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lewis's guard.

Daniels manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Daniels misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Daniels wants to control the pace but Lewis is squirming around nicely.
Lewis tries to reverse the position but Daniels maintains control.

Lewis is squirming around, avoiding Daniels's attempts to control the action.
Daniels sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Samuel Daniels just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Daniels closes the distance and clinches.
Daniels swings wildly with an uppercut but Lewis uses good head movement to avoid it.
Daniels wants to stall.
Daniels tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Daniels unloads a knee to the mid-section. Lewis lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Daniels has a couple of punches blocked by Lewis.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Daniels lands an elbow inside that Lewis shrugs off.
Lewis has Daniels pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Daniels manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Samuel Daniels has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mo Lewis.
A short uppercut from Daniels.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Daniels lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Lewis or not.
A bit of stalling here from Daniels.
Lewis wants a takedown.
Daniels lands an elbow just above Lewis 's eye.
Daniels leaning his opponent against the cage.
Daniels looking to throw knees to the head but Lewis is blocking nicely.
Daniels throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lewis wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Daniels has him pressed against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Daniels fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Lewis fails to pull guard.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Lewis as Daniels tries to tie him up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mo Lewis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lewis has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
