The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simmons takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
El Salahuddin just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromSimmons.
El Salahuddin wants to slow Simmons down by chopping away at his legs.
As El Salahuddin tries to get set, Simmons tries to push him back and clinch up but El Salahuddin manages to avoid the attempt.

Aslam El Salahuddin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Simmons shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says El Salahuddin as he avoids it easily.

El Salahuddin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Simmons knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for El Salahuddin on the ground.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Simmons enables El Salahuddin to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Simmons manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Let's hope that El Salahuddin has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
