Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Simon Vale (ranked 397 p4p, 54 weight class) and Maki Pulu (ranked 830 p4p, 39 weight class). Vale comes to the cage accompanied by Motorhead-Iron Fist . Pulu has chosen Alive as his entrance music. Maki Pulu has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 24 - 0, fighting out of New York, Simon Vale!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 21 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maki Pulu!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vale throws a lazy right hand but Pulu sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Vale tests Pulu's chin there with a solid looking shot.


It looks like Maki Pulu has been cut.
Vale leaves Pulu with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Vale smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Vale scores with a nice strike.
Vale fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Pulu looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Vale throws an off balance right hand
and Pulu connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.


It looks like Simon Vale has been cut.
Vale cracks a nice hook into Pulu's ribs.
Pulu jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Vale looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Vale cracks Pulu with a right hand to the side of the head.
Vale slips under a jab from Pulu.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pulu thows a left - swing and a miss!
Vale throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Pulu swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Vale misses with a double jab
and Pulu makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Vale really felt that one!
Pulu misses with an uppercut. Vale saw that one coming.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pulu slips under a jab.
Pulu takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Vale does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Vale takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Vale is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Pulu.
Simon Vale is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Pulu scores with the left hand. Vale knows he should have avoided that one.
Pulu cracks Vale with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Pulu misses with an uppercut. Vale saw that one coming.
Pulu blocks a leg kick.
Vale jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Pulu bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pulu.
Pulu avoids a punch combination nicely.
Vale ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vale throws a front kick aimed at Pulu's knee but Pulu avoids it well.
Vale staying out of range there.
Vale throws a lazy right hand but Pulu sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Vale throws out a loose jab but Pulu uses good head movement to avoid it.
Vale connects with a right hand. Pulu shakes it off.
Pulu doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Vale counters with a shoot takedown. Pulu fights it but they end up in guard.
Simon Vale has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Maki Pulu.
Vale landing with the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vale wants to stand but Pulu has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Vale content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Vale trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Vale has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Pulu is proving hard to escape from.

Pulu is working an open guard so Vale takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vale lands with a cross.
Vale cracks Pulu with an open hand slap.
Pulu gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Vale fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Pulu looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Vale blocks a head kick by Pulu.
An attempted straight right counter from Vale misses the target.

Pulu shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Vale's guard.
Vale is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Pulu is controlling him.
Pulu passes Vale's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Pulu is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Vale defends it well.
Pulu wants to free his trapped foot but Vale is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Pulu wants to control but Vale is keeping him busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Vale wants to stand back up but Pulu manages to pass into side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pulu wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vale keeps working.
Pulu in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Pulu is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Vale knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Vale explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Simon Vale dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Vale slips under a jab.
Vale uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Pulu.

Vale tries to sprawl but Pulu drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Vale slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Vale is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Vale looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vale uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Vale throws a good cross that connects.
Vale is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Pulu can do to turn this around?
Pulu misses with a looping right.
Vale slaps away a takedown attempt from Pulu, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Pulu throws a lazy head kick
letting Vale counter with a right hand.
Vale misses with a right hand
and Pulu counters with a nice uppercut.
Vale misses the shot to the body.
Pulu moves out of range of the strikes.
Pulu checks the leg kick.
Vale doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Pulu steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Vale.
Vale takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Pulu takes one on the chin but seems OK.


That has opened up Maki Pulu's cut even more.
Vale digs a good hook to Pulu's body.
Pulu scores with a nice right hand.
Pulu walks into a jab.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Vale lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Pulu stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Vale.

Pulu knocks Vale to the floor with a head kick! Can he finish him!?


Vale is rocked!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Pulu tries for a kimura but Vale is defending well.
Oh Vale is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Pulu looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Pulu advances to full mount.

Pulu throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Vale has his hands clasped together but Pulu breaks the hold and Vale is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Pulu!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Maki Pulu!
Maki Pulu is the new heavyweight champion!
During a confident post fight interview, Maki Pulu thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
