PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ernest Graves (ranked 87 p4p, 11 weight class) and Tud Stoddler (ranked 346 p4p, 40 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Stoddler's choice of entrance music: Arcade Fire - Ready to Start. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ernest Graves!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tud Stoddler!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Graves looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Stoddler dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Graves takes one to the chin there.


It looks like Ernest Graves has been cut.
Stoddler displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Graves.

Graves fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Stoddler sprawls well initially but Graves persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Graves trying to pass the guard but Stoddler defending well.
Stoddler is looking to control Graves's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Stoddler avoid being mounted?
Stoddler is looking to improve his position.
Stoddler regains full guard. Nicely done.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Graves trying to control the position from guard on top but Stoddler is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stoddler is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Stoddler keeping moving, preventing Graves from controlling successfully.
Stoddler has his hands on Graves's head, controlling the position.
Graves stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stoddler swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Graves throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Stoddler is adopting a defensive guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Stoddler steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Graves.
A cross from Graves lands.


It looks like Tud Stoddler has been cut.
Graves fails with the takedown
and Stoddler counters with a straight right hand.
Stoddler connects with a body shot that sends Graves's belly button to the back.
Tud Stoddler is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Graves walks into a straight right hand from Stoddler.
Graves throws out a powerful jab.
Stoddler loads up on a big right hand but Graves slips the punch.
The fighters circling - Stoddler throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Graves thuds a left hand into Stoddler's body.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Stoddler lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Graves has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Graves and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Graves swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Stoddler now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Stoddler jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Graves moves away from the strike by Stoddler.
Graves is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Graves throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Graves with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Stoddler to score with a decent uppercut.


Graves is rocked!
Stoddler throws the left hand but Graves avoids the punch easily.
Graves is looking to counter punch.
Graves misses with a body punch
enabling Stoddler to counter with a crisp jab.
Oh Graves is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Nice jab there from Stoddler.
Graves takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
A slapping leg kick lands for Stoddler.
Stoddler cracks Graves with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Stoddler works Graves's body with a nice hook.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Stoddler throws a nice inside leg kick.
Stoddler lands a jab to Graves's midsection.
Stoddler throws an overhand right that drops Graves like a sack of potatoes! Stoddler dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tud Stoddler!
Tud Stoddler is the new lightweight champion!
After winning the bout, Tud Stoddler thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
