Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Johnnie Tanner (ranked 24412 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bong McGary (ranked 4186 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McGary gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Tanner jumps guard but McGary stands there with Tanner around his waist. Tanner gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Tanner is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

McGary pulls guard.

McGary looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Tanner passes into side control.
McGary pushes Tanner away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Tanner gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Tanner really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McGary is trying to get back to his feet.

McGary tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Tanner wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Tanner will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
McGary pushes Tanner away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Tanner gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Tanner thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Tanner decides to stand back up. Tanner steps back and let's McGary get back to his feet.

McGary rushes Tanner and presses him up against the cage.

Tanner is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables McGary to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnnie Tanner. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McGary gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Tanner.

McGary has hold of one of Tanner's legs. Tanner is fighting the takedown attempt but McGary gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McGary is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Tanner dives into side control.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
McGary parries the strikes from Tanner easily there. Tanner is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable McGary to escape.
McGary is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Tanner off and has taken his back!

McGary is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Tanner has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
