Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mikel Miles (ranked 24824 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Samel (ranked 5053 p4p, 0 weight class). Mikel Miles has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mikel Miles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jake Samel!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Samel moves into range and clinches up with Miles.
Miles taking a break, stalling in the clinch.

Miles is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Samel can't fight it off and eventually Miles manages to take the fight to the floor. Samel looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Samel wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Miles manages to pass to side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Samel tries to roll over but Miles keeps him under control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Samel pushes Miles off looking to stand but Miles dives back in and keeps control.
Miles thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Samel is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Miles's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Miles's back!

Miles is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake Samel off. It looks like it's working - Samel slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Miles displaying calm under pressure there.

Miles has managed to clinch.
Miles has Samel pushed against the cage.
Miles blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Samel is trying to break the clinch but Miles is controlling him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Miles stalling against the cage.
Miles fails to pull guard.
Samel content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Samel ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Samel no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Miles throwing strikes from guard but Samel blocks nicely.

Miles stands up and waves to Samel to follow him.
Samel lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Samel decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Miles is doing well to control the position and prevent Samel from advancing to side control.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Samel in particular looking to stall.
Miles has his hands clasped together around Samel's back. He's all about the action.
Samel tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Miles is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Miles really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Samel wants to control but Miles is keeping him busy.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Miles is controlling Samel's position as best he can from this difficult position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Samel has closed the distance and engaged Miles in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jake Samel will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Miles shoots for a takedown but Samel saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Miles gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Miles has his feet on Samel's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Miles keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Samel's efforts to push away.

Samel pulls Miles into guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Samel trying to keep a closed guard but Miles is proving a slippery customer.
Miles throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Miles with a flurry of punches that miss.

Samel is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Miles dives into side control.

Miles goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Samel has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Miles but great work by Samel.
Miles manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Miles moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Samel wants to control from the top but Miles keeps moving.
Miles seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Samel distracts Miles with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Miles pulls Samel in close to his closed guard and prevents Samel from doing any damage or advancing position.

Miles is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Samel looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

The fighters are battling for position here. Miles manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Miles wants to sweep here but Samel controlling him for the moment.

Miles postures up and lands a big shot to Samel's brow.
Mikel Miles overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Samel gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Miles slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Miles wants to sweep but no luck.
Miles is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Samel is working Miles over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Miles holds on and takes a little breather.
Miles looking for a sweep. Not yet Miles, not yet.
Miles looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Samel got a little sloppy there for a moment and Miles has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Samel has managed to get both his arms back between Miles's legs - danger averted.
Miles is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Samel has a hand on Miles's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Miles takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Miles has hold of Samel's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Samel manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Samel is trying to reverse the position but instead Miles has taken his back - oops!
Miles connects with a big shot to the side of Samel's head.
Samel tries to escape but Miles has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Samel takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Miles has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Samel trying to control the position but Miles manages to sink in the hooks.
Samel rolls, trying to escape but Miles keeps control of the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Mikel Miles showed his dominance in that final round.
