PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Leo Barry (ranked 24897 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexandru Daniel (ranked 6672 p4p, 0 weight class). Daniel has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Alexandru Daniel has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Leo Barry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alexandru Daniel!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Ryoma Takatsuka and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Daniel fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Barry to the ground. Daniel is now in Barry's guard.
Daniel content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Barry drops back looking for a leg! Daniel is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Daniel manages to kick Barry off! Barry jumps back into Daniel's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Daniel can do anything to dispel that myth.
Barry is working Daniel over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Daniel is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Barry defends well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Alexandru Daniel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Daniel avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and Daniel counters with a series of strikes. Barry will be more careful next time no doubt.

Daniel has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Barry is proving hard to escape from.

Barry slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Daniel escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Barry gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Barry tries to clinch up.

Daniel shoots in and gets a takedown into Barry's guard.

Barry pushes Daniel off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Daniel manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Barry on his heels. He'll look to pass Barry's guard now, I'm sure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leo Barry dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Barry moves in looking to clinch but Daniel pushes him off.

Barry might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Barry wants to sweep but no luck.
Barry pulls Daniel in close to prevent any damage.
