The judges for this bout are William Peck, Elvis Blanc and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machado tries to clinch up but Cruz circles away and keeps his distance.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cruz is defended easily by Machado.
Machado gets a takedown into half guard.
Cruz on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cruz tries to get out of the position.
Machado seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cruz does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Machado wants to pass the guard but Cruz is defending well.
Cruz wants to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Machado seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Machado is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cruz wants to sweep but Machado has passed to side control!
Machado has control of an arm but Cruz manages to advance to Machado's back!
Cruz is not going to allow Machado to sit and survive in this position.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Cruz's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Machado is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Cruz scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Cruz.
Machado is rocked!
Machado just trying to survive but Cruz is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Cruz is trying to stick to Machado's back but Machado is turning into Cruz. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Cruz's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Machado.

Machado thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Machado drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Machado jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Cruz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Machado on the ground.
Cruz has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Machado has passed into side control.
Machado is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Cruz has escaped the position, nice work there.
Cruz is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Machado has hold of Cruz's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Cruz seems comfortable defending it but Machado has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Cruz is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Cruz is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Machado couldn't care less - he's delighted!
