Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kory Acevedo (ranked 24500 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maximus Meridius (ranked 5060 p4p, 0 weight class). Maximus Meridius has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kory Acevedo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Maximus Meridius!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Acevedo tries to sprawl but Meridius drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Acevedo could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Acevedo wants to sweep but Meridius has passed to side control!
Acevedo controls the position for a moment.
Acevedo is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Meridius off and has taken his back!

Meridius is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Acevedo gets his way!
Meridius tries to break free.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Acevedo lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Meridius manages to reverse the position and now he's in Acevedo's guard. Nice work there by Meridius.

Meridius wants to control from the top but Acevedo keeps moving.
Acevedo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Meridius wants to stand but Acevedo has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Acevedo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Meridius defends well.

Meridius wants to control from the top but Acevedo keeps moving.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Meridius throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Acevedo tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Meridius is in Acevedo's guard.
Meridius wants to pass the guard but Acevedo is keeping the position.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A combination from Acevedo does no damage.

Meridius throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Acevedo tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Meridius is in Acevedo's guard.
Meridius must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Acevedo lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Acevedo connects with a couple of short punches.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Meridius is controlling Acevedo's trapped leg to prevent Acevedo from advancing to side control.

Acevedo thows a huge punch but Meridius dodges it nicely.

Meridius has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Acevedo is working away from the top position though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Meridius moves into full guard.
Acevedo won't allow Meridius to sweep him here.
Acevedo keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Meridius's head.
Acevedo works over Meridius with some ground and pound from guard.
Meridius has momentary wrist control but Acevedo slips an elbow through the middle.

Acevedo swings for the body but Meridius moves out of range.

Meridius manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Acevedo on his heels. He'll look to pass Acevedo's guard now, I'm sure.
Meridius not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Acevedo is on top in guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Acevedo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Meridius wants to sweep here but Acevedo controlling him for the moment.

Well Acevedo has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
