PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Michael Hill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Kicker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael Hill!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tommy Kicker!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Glass and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hill pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kicker closes the distance and clinches up with Hill, looking for a takedown. Kicker pushes Hill against the cage but Hill circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A head kick misses from Hill.

Hill gets the takedown into side control.
Kicker is pushing Hill's head away, looking to escape. Hill manages to hold on to the position though.
Kicker is looking to regain half guard here but Hill keeps moving and retains side control.
Hill wants to control but Kicker is keeping him busy.
Hill is working Kicker over with some ground and pound from side control.
Kicker has one of Hill's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
Kicker throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Hill wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kicker keeps working.
Hill throws a strike aimed at the side of Kicker's head but Kicker avoids it well.

Kicker tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Kicker is in all sorts of trouble here.

Hill is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Hill thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kicker's head.

Hill lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Hill is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Kicker tries to kick Hill off but Hill keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Kicker is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kicker looks gassed!
Hill lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Hill trying to mount his opponent but Kicker defends it.

Hill working Kicker over with strikes.
Kicker wants to improve his position but Hill is controlling well.
Hill wants to take a breather but Kicker is having none of it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Kicker tries for a takedown but Hill circles away easily

and Hill counters with a single leg into guard. Kicker didn't expect that.

Kicker is working an open guard so Hill takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Hill looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Hill lands with a punch from half guard.
Hill wants to take a breather but Kicker is having none of it.

Hill lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Hill passes the guard and advances to mount!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hill postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Kicker looks a forlorn figure.
Hill is stalling here but it's allowed Kicker to get half guard.
Kicker moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Hill dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Kicker looks for the body kick but Hill saw that one coming.
Hill blocks a head kick by Kicker.

Hill darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Hill is trying to work for a kimura but Kicker is defending well.
Kicker is looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hill is nestled in close to Kicker, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Hill seems to be looking for submissions.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kicker is refusing to be controlled, as Hill sits in half guard.

Hill stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Kicker to get to his feet.
Hill on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Hill tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kicker paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Kicker drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Hill prevents Kicker from moving into mount.

Hill wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Hill tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Hill prevents Kicker from getting a body triangle.
Kicker is trying to stick to Hill's back but Hill is turning into Kicker. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Kicker's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Hill.

Michael Hill overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kicker keeping moving, preventing Hill from controlling successfully.
Kicker doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Hill pushes Kicker up against the cage in a clinch.
Hill goes for a takedown in the clinch but Kicker prevents it.
Kicker is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hill gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Hill pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kicker stuffs the takedown.

Kicker drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hill tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kicker wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Kicker scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Hill to see if he's OK.
Kicker fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Kicker is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hill knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Hill can't do much from the bottom here.
Kicker postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Tommy Kicker will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Hill's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Kicker gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Kicker is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hill content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Hill is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Hill cracks Kicker with a solid left hand.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Hill makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Hill slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Hill passes Kicker's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hill connects with a nice short shot to Kicker's temple.
Kicker on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Hill stops Kicker from getting back to his feet.
Hill content to control rather than advance.
Kicker flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hill lands a nice short elbow.
Hill not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Kicker is trying to stand up here but Hill is controlling him well.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kicker shoots in for a takedown but Hill shows good takedown defense.

and Hill counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Hill throwing shots but Kicker is blocking nicely.
Kicker is trying to stand back up but Hill is controlling him

Hill with the ground and pound but Kicker uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Hill throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kicker works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Hill trying to control the position from guard on top but Kicker is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kicker wants to stand but Hill is controlling the position.

Kicker works his way to full guard. Good work.
Hill wants to control from the top but Kicker keeps moving.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Kicker is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hill won't allow Kicker to sweep him here.
Kicker is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Hill postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Kicker throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Hill closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well Hill has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
