Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Rapier (ranked 5084 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucas Owens (ranked 5131 p4p, 408 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mike Rapier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lucas Owens!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Owens blocks a head kick by Rapier.

Owens darts in and clinches Rapier up against the cage.
Rapier fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Rapier tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Owens tries to pull guard but Rapier won't allow it.

Rapier breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rapier stuffs the takedown.
Owens tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rapier sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Owens somewhat.
Mike Rapier has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lucas Owens.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Rapier counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Rapier has Owens pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Owens manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Rapier shoots for a double leg takedown but Owens sprawls well. He's pushed Rapier's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Owens is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Owens looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Rapier throws a counter high kick but Owens was just alert enough to avoid it.
Owens shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Rapier tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Owens manages to circle out of the way.
Rapier dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Owens. That did some damage!

Owens is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Rapier tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Rapier tries a body shot but Owens blocks it.
Owens tries to break free but Rapier pushes him back against the cage.

Rapier decides to pull guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rapier wants to stand up but Owens is controlling him.
Owens wants to get up but he can't break Rapier's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Owens is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Owens won't allow Rapier to get back to his feet.
Rapier trying to keep a closed guard but Owens is proving a slippery customer.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Rapier is looking for a triangle but Owens pushes his legs off easily.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Owens goes for a double leg but Rapier avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Rapier continues to drive forward.

Owens closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Owens blocks an elbow strike from Rapier.
Rapier is working for takedown but Owens is calmly controlling the position for now.
Owens has had enough of the clinch but Rapier keeps him there for the moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Nice body punch from Owens - that landed with a thud.

Rapier breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rapier throws an overhand right that lands on Owens's shoulder, as Owens tries to avoid the shot.
Rapier leaves Owens with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rapier fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Owens has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Owens throws a leg kick that misses.
Rapier misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Owens looks for a takedown but Rapier sprawls well.
Owens will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Owens has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Rapier after a bit of a struggle.

Rapier escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Rapier rushes Owens and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Rapier has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Owens is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Owens has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Rapier uses from the top position.
Owens is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rapier controls Owens momentarily but Owens frees himself.

Owens is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Owens wants to control from the top but Rapier keeps moving.
Owens missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Rapier throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Owens shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rapier sprawls well. Rapier wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Owens gets slowly back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lucas Owens showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Owens tries to close the distance and clinch but Rapier swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Owens wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Rapier has him pressed against the cage.

Owens manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Horrible takedown attempt by Rapier or perhaps it was just good defense by Owens, which made it look bad.

Owens shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rapier pinned against the cage. Rapier gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Owens gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Owens tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rapier smiles and moves away.
Owens changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rapier tries to avoid it but Owens manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rapier to the ground. Rapier escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Rapier tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lucas Owens comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Owens has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
