PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Calvin Carr (ranked 24721 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyle Peralta (ranked 4541 p4p, 0 weight class). Kyle Peralta will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Calvin Carr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kyle Peralta!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Dean Styles and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Peralta gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Carr to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Peralta wants to sweep but no luck.
Carr throws a big elbow that misses.
Carr stays in close to Peralta's body and controls the position.
Peralta working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Carr.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carr stands up and waves to Peralta to follow him.
Peralta looks winded!
Peralta throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Peralta stuffs the takedown.
Peralta tries a head kick but it misses.

Carr drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Carr stays in close to Peralta's body and controls the position.
Carr won't allow Peralta to sweep him here.
Carr is working Peralta over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Carr misses with a takedown attempt - Peralta sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Carr decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Carr has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Carr in particular looking to stall.

Carr is taking a breather. Peralta says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carr is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Peralta is just riding it out for now. Carr eventually gives up the hold.

Carr looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Carr decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Carr shoots in looking for a takedown. Peralta tries to sprawl out of it but Carr keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Peralta manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Peralta lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Carr really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Peralta shoots in looking for a takedown. Carr tries to sprawl out of it but Peralta keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Carr manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Peralta throws a head kick but Carr moves out of range.
Peralta displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Carr.
We've been informed that Peralta has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Peralta stuffs the takedown.
Carr tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Peralta defends well and Carr ends up having to push Peralta into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Carr keeps the fight on the outside.
Peralta throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Carr.

Peralta swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Peralta slaps away a takedown attempt from Carr, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Peralta misses with a low kick.
Sloppy strikes from Carr. Those never looked like landing.
Carr shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Peralta pinned against the cage. Peralta gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Carr counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Peralta is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Carr dives into side control.

Check out the look on Carr's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Carr just content to control the position.
Carr connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Peralta some visible discomfort.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Kyle Peralta showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Peralta is trying to escape back to his feet but Carr uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Carr is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Peralta takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Carr decides to stand up, so the ref orders Peralta to his feet.
Peralta stuffs the takedown.
Carr misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Carr shoots in for a double leg but Peralta sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Carr closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Peralta tries to bench press Carr off him but Carr keeps the position.
Peralta takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Peralta tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Peralta is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Carr stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Carr looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Peralta is fending him off so far but Carr persists. Nope, Peralta circles away and we're back to standing.

Carr gets to his feet - Peralta follows without any prompting.
Peralta throws a head kick that misses.

Carr clinches up with Peralta and pushes him back against the cage.
Carr keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Peralta's efforts to push away.
Carr is trying to break the clinch but Peralta has him pressed against the cage.
Carr is looking to break free of the clinch but Peralta has double underhooks.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Carr is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Peralta is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Peralta wants to break free but Carr has control.
Peralta tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Carr looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Carr manages to break the clinch.

Carr moves into the clinch successfully.
Peralta wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Calvin Carr showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Carr has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
