Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Taneli Valkama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Jeffson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jeffson connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Valkama shoots for a takedown but Jeffson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Valkama shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jeffson pinned against the cage. Jeffson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Jeffson is bucking up trying to escape but Valkama cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Valkama had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Jeffson is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Valkama Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Jeffson's back instead.

Valkama is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Jeffson is defending well though. Valkama let's go of the attempt for now.

Valkama has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Jeffson has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Valkama has control of Jeffson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Jeffson regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Valkama has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Valkama swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Jeffson is now in Valkama's guard. A big mistake from Valkama there, giving up the dominant position!
Jeffson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
