PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jack Jackson (ranked 2706 p4p, 301 weight class) and Billy Cubbedge (ranked 1787 p4p, 222 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Billy Cubbedge !
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cubbedge rushes Jackson and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.

Cubbedge has clasped his hands together around Jackson's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Jackson is trying to work for a sweep but Cubbedge has mounted him!

Jackson is trying to maintain the position but Cubbedge is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Cubbedge takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The referee warns Jackson that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Cubbedge has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Cubbedge has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Jackson's face.

Cubbedge looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Jackson is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Five Round Fight Club NY (50 max), so we'll see if he gets out of it.
It looks like Cubbedge might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Cubbedge is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Jackson is surviving well by controlling Cubbedge 's body position as best he can.

Cubbedge presses Jackson against the ropes and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Cubbedge 's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Jackson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cubbedge on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Cubbedge plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Cubbedge moves into the clinch.
Cubbedge changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Jackson fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Jackson wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Cubbedge has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Jackson clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Billy Cubbedge showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Cubbedge is taking a breather. Jackson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Billy Cubbedge comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Cubbedge has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
