The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Gaines is predictable there

and Thompson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Gaines won't be happy with that.
Thompson looks up at the clock and then as Gaines takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Thompson smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Thompson wants to stand but Gaines has his arm trapped.
Gaines really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Gaines seems a little lost for a moment, as Thompson dominates the positioning.
Thompson grinds an elbow into Gaines's temple.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thompson controls the position from side control.
Thompson looks up at the clock and then as Gaines takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Thompson smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Thompson grinds an elbow into Gaines's temple.
Thompson just content to control the position.
Thompson tries to advance to mount but can't.
Thompson moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gaines sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Thompson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Thompson passes the guard and advances to mount!
Thompson looking to finish Gaines with some ground and pound. This is bad for Gaines!

Gaines is rocked!
Thompson is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Gaines can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Oh Gaines is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Thompson drops a big elbow. That's hurt Gaines! More shots from Thompson and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
