PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lesser Scaup (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rico Ramano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ramano comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Hair of the Dog/Nazereth kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lesser Scaup!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rico Ramano!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Elvis Blanc and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ramano closes the distance and clinches.
Ramano lands a body shot in the clinch.
Ramano connects with a knee to the head.


It looks like Lesser Scaup has been cut.
A right handed body shot lands from Ramano.
Ramano tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Ramano breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Ramano closes the distance and clinches.
Ramano lands a left hand that snaps the head of Scaup backwards.

Ramano breaks the clinch.
Ramano shoots for a double leg takedown but Scaup sprawls well. He's pushed Ramano's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Some wild striking there from Scaup.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Ramano!
A head kick misses from Scaup.
Ramano tries a head kick but it misses.
Ramano lands with a kick to the temple. Scaup shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ramano throws a right and a left that Scaup avoids nicely.

Ramano stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Scaup tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ramano swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ramano lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!


Lesser Scaup's cut is getting worse.
Rico Ramano seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ramano will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Ramano counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Ramano is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Scaup tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Ramano just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lesser Scaup. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ramano manages to break the clinch.
Ramano misses with a double jab.
Ramano throws a right and a left that both miss.

Scaup closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Scaup lands in his opponent's guard.

Ramano pushes Scaup off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Scaup throws a right and a left that Ramano avoids nicely.
Scaup drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Ramano seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Scaup is trying to control but can't.
Scaup pushes Ramano off looking to stand but Ramano dives back in and keeps control.
Scaup wants to control the action here but instead Ramano manages to pass to full mount!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Ramano throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Scaup defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Ramano.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Scaup with a poor takedown

and Ramano counters by clinching up.

Ramano manages to break the clinch.

Ramano throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Scaup blocks it with crossed arms.

Ramano's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Scaup checks a low kick from Ramano.
Scaup moves in looking to clinch but Ramano pushes him off.
Scaup fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
A punch lands to the side of Scaup 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Scaup tries to move into range but Ramano moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

and Scaup counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Ramano's guard now.
Scaup has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ramano is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scaup is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ramano controls Scaup momentarily but Scaup frees himself.
Scaup wants to control from the top but Ramano keeps moving.
Scaup makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Ramano looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Scaup throws and elbow that misses. Ramano uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Scaup's guard. Nice move by Ramano!

Ramano's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Scaup not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ramano is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Ramano thows a big elbow that misses.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Scaup gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Scaup feints and as Ramano raises his hands in defense, Scaup changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Ramano is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Scaup is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Ramano had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Scaup is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Ramano Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Scaup's back instead.
Ramano gets his hands free as Scaup looks to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Lesser Scaup will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Scaup feints and as Ramano raises his hands in defense, Scaup changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Ramano is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Ramano is looking for a triangle but Scaup pushes his legs off easily.
Scaup throwing strikes from guard but Ramano blocks nicely.

Ramano working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Scaup doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Scaup manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Ramano has a closed guard, preventing Scaup from standing up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Scaup looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Scaup wants to control from the top but Ramano keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Scaup is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ramano is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ramano lands a nice shot that snaps Scaup's head back.
Scaup tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ramano swivels and escapes.
Horrible takedown by Scaup or perhaps it was just good defense by Ramano which made him look bad.

Ramano clinches with his opponent.
Ramano with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Scaup takes a shot to the head.

Ramano breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ramano scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Ramano plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Ramano scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Ramano drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Ramano wants to lay and pray for a moment but Scaup keeps working.

Scaup struggling a bit here.
Ramano in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Scaup is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Ramano has just dragged him back down to the mat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
A lull in the action here.
Ramano trying to control the action but Scaup is working from the bottom.
Scaup is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Ramano off and has taken his back!

And that's the end of the fight!
Rico Ramano comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ramano has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
