The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mullen is trying to maintain the position but Penn is very close to passing his half guard.
Mullen wants to improve his position but Penn is controlling well.

Penn is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mullen is just riding it out for now. Penn eventually gives up the hold.
Penn is trying to control. Mullen wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mullen wants to control but Penn is keeping busy.
Penn frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Penn wants to take Mullen's back but he can't do it this time.

Penn looking to control but Mullen is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Mullen should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Mullen is looking to get to half guard.
Mullen is still trying to improve position.

Penn working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Mullen turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Penn off and cradles Mullen's limp body as Penn celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Freddy Penn!
After the fight, Freddy Penn was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
