Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lon Whitaker (ranked 24301 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Monroe (ranked 4970 p4p, 0 weight class). Mark Monroe has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lon Whitaker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Monroe!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whitaker swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Whitaker avoids the body shot from Monroe.

Whitaker moves into range and clinches up with Monroe.
Whitaker wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Monroe has him pressed against the cage.

Monroe is trying to trip Whitaker. He has hold of a leg but Whitaker is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Monroe persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Monroe prevents Whitaker from getting back to his feet.
Whitaker wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Whitaker had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Monroe defends it easily.
Whitaker will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Whitaker is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Monroe defends well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Monroe is looking to advance position but Whitaker won't allow it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Monroe throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Monroe tries to close the distance and clinch up but Whitaker swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Whitaker throws a quick counter head kick but Monroe was just out of range.

Monroe manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Whitaker on his heels. He'll look to pass Whitaker's guard now, I'm sure.
Whitaker is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Monroe is controlling him.

Monroe got a little sloppy there for a moment and Whitaker has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Monroe has managed to get both his arms back between Whitaker's legs - danger averted.
Whitaker really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Mark Monroe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close round but I would say that Lon Whitaker will probably get the nod.

Whitaker clinches up with Monroe and pushes him back against the cage.

Monroe jumps guard and drags Whitaker to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Monroe is looking for a triangle here but Whitaker uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Monroe is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Whitaker is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Monroe might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Whitaker haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Whitaker has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Monroe is on him like a limpet, forcing Whitaker back against the cage.

Whitaker escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Monroe shoots in and bounces Whitaker off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Whitaker is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Monroe shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Whitaker is trying to defend but Monroe finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
