Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Buford Castro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Waco Monson!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Chris Dean and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Monson clinches up against the cage.
Castro tries for a takedown. No joy.
Castro drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Monson gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Monson is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Castro can't fight it off and eventually Monson manages to take the fight to the floor. Castro looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Monson wants to control from the top but Castro keeps moving.
Monson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Castro's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Castro has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Monson is working away from the top position though.

Monson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Monson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Castro is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Monson wants to stand back up but Castro manages to pass into side control.

Castro has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Monson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Castro wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Monson keeps trying to improve his position.

Castro creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Castro wants to stand but Monson is controlling his arm.
Castro postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Castro will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Monson tries to improve position but can't.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Monson can do anything to dispel that myth.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

It looks like Buford Castro has been cut.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Waco Monson will probably get the nod.

Monson scores with a big shot! Castro's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Castro! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Waco Monson!
