PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bryant French (ranked 23718 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Henderson (ranked 4893 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Henderson's choice of entrance music: Old Town Road. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Justin Henderson!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Elvis Blanc and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Henderson darts in and clinches French up against the cage.
French stalling the fight.
Henderson prevents French from breaking the clinch.

Henderson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics French uses from the top position.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells French's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Henderson wants to stand up but French is controlling him.
French content to stall in guard here.
French working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Henderson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
French is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as French accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
French not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
French seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Henderson for as long as he can get away with.
French has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

French closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Henderson is looking to reverse the position.
You can see the frustration on Henderson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Henderson is working to avoid the ground and pound but French connects with a decent elbow.

Henderson seems a little lost for a moment, as French dominates the positioning.
Henderson is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on French's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

French is taking a breather. Henderson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
French working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

French is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Henderson sees it coming and defends easily.

Henderson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

French slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
French has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Henderson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. French manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
French is looking to sweep but instead, Henderson has passed into half guard.
French tries to roll over but Henderson keeps him under control.

French is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Henderson pulls his head out easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Henderson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Let's hope that Henderson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
French is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
French is refusing to be controlled, as Henderson sits in half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Henderson content to control rather than advance.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Bryant French is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Henderson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. French knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Henderson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging French to the ground. Henderson is now in French's guard.
French wants to stand but Henderson is controlling the position.

French is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Henderson defends well.

French looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
French wants to stand up but Henderson is controlling him.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

and French counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Henderson!
French will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

French knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Henderson on the ground.
