PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Evgenii Mamchenko (ranked 1681 p4p, 224 weight class) and Mark Steve (ranked 256 p4p, 35 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Steve's choice of entrance music: Its a fine day to whoop somebodies ass. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 16 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Evgenii Mamchenko!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Steve!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Wagner Zegers and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mamchenko cracks Steve with an open hand slap.
Mamchenko lands the left hand.
Mamchenko fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Steve ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Steve throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Mamchenko sees it coming and avoids it easily.
The fighters circle momentarily. Steve darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Steve scores with a leg kick.
Mamchenko throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Steve on the side of the head.
Mamchenko connects with a right hand. Steve shakes it off.
Steve pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mamchenko throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Steve's waist but Steve gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mamchenko off to one side.

Mamchenko shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Steve counters with a left to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Evgenii Mamchenko. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Steve ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mamchenko moves away.
Nice defenses there by Mamchenko.
Mamchenko connects with a good right hand that stumbles Steve. Steve circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Mamchenko cracks Steve with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Steve is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Mamchenko with a body shot.
Mamchenko changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Steve tries to avoid it but Mamchenko manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Steve to the ground. Steve escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Mamchenko closes this distance looking for a takedown but Steve circles away.

Steve looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Mamchenko sizes up Steve with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Mamchenko takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Steve lands a really nice looking cross but Mamchenko seems unphased.
Steve has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far.
Mamchenko throws a series of punches but Steve avoids them all with ease.

It seemed like Steve was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Evgenii Mamchenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Steve cracks Mamchenko with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Steve has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Mamchenko to stand back up!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mamchenko manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Steve on his heels. He'll look to pass Steve's guard now, I'm sure.

Mamchenko might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Mamchenko has his foot on Steve's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Steve works his way back into a safe position though.
Mamchenko has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mamchenko wants to control the position but Steve says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mamchenko has a hand on Steve's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Steve takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Mark Steve showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Mamchenko shoots in looking for a takedown. Steve tries to sprawl out of it but Mamchenko keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Steve manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Mamchenko is looking to work some ground and pound but Steve has wrist control.

Mamchenko slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
