PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Luke Fisher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mitch Lilke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Luke Fisher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mitch Lilke!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lilke misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Fisher looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Lilke shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Fisher pinned against the cage. Fisher gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Lilke closes this distance looking for a takedown but Fisher circles away.
Luke Fisher has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mitch Lilke.
Lilke shoots in but no luck this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fisher really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Lilke content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Lilke throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Fisher knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lilke on the ground.

Lilke thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Fisher's head.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Lilke moves nicely into side control.
Lilke content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Lilke works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mitch Lilke dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Lilke with a poor takedown

and Fisher decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Lilke's guard.
Lilke seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Lilke manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Fisher manages to get himself to full guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Lilke working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Despite being in the dominant position, Mitch Lilke just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lilke closes the distance and clinches up with Fisher, looking for a takedown. Lilke pushes Fisher against the cage but Fisher circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Fisher shoots and misses

and Lilke counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Fisher's guard now.
Fisher on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Fisher tries to get out of the position.

Mitch Lilke showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Lilke throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fisher's waist but Fisher gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lilke off to one side.
Fisher shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lilke as he avoids it easily.
Lilke doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Fisher decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Lilke's guard.
Lilke tries to strike from the bottom.
Lilke is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Fisher has hold of Lilke's hands but Lilke slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Lilke content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Lilke lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Still in half guard, Lilke seems content to control.
Lilke is looking to advance position but Fisher won't allow it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Luke Fisher.
I think Lilke has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
