The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.

Thompson shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Maximus is trying to stand.

Maximus kicks Thompson off and gets back to his feet.
Maximus leaves Thompson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Maximus darts in and clinches Thompson up against the cage.

Thompson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Maximus uses from the top position.

Thompson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Maximus gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Thompson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Maximus wants to get back to his feet but Thompson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Thompson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Maximus has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Thompson has managed to get both his arms back between Maximus's legs - danger averted.
Thompson postures up and lands a big shot to Maximus's brow.
Maximus wants to stand but Thompson is controlling the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Thompson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Maximus is fending him off so far but Thompson persists. Nope, Maximus circles away and we're back to standing.

Maximus shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Thompson napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Walker Thompson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Maximus is breathing heavily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Maximus lands a couple of digs.
Maximus with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Maximus wants to control from the top but Thompson keeps moving.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Thompson looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Maximus is defending well. Thompson quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Maximus has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Thompson celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
