These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Anderson Mcclain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rick Barrera!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Barrera is defended easily by Mcclain.
Mcclain wants to clinch
and Barrera counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
No joy there for Mcclain, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Mcclain clinches up with Barrera and pushes him back against the cage.
Barrera goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Mcclain tries to pull guard but Barrera holds him up against the cage and eventually Mcclain drops back down to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mcclain tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Barrera smiles and moves away.

Barrera drives through with a takedown into Mcclain's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mcclain looking for a sweep. Not yet Mcclain, not yet.
Barrera stands and throws Mcclain's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Mcclain might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Barrera decides to stand back up. Barrera steps back and let's Mcclain get back to his feet.

Barrera tries to keep at a distance but Mcclain has taken the fight into the clinch.
Mcclain really is a fat lump.

Barrera escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A head kick by Mcclain misses

and Barrera counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Barrera.
Mcclain jumps guard but Barrera turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anderson Mcclain. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Barrera pulls guard successfully.

Barrera working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mcclain doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Barrera is tightening it up a little... Mcclain has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Mcclain reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Mcclain taps out! Nice BJJ there by Barrera!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Rick Barrera!
