PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tomas Mason (ranked 24173 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mario Macola (ranked 4864 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tomas Mason!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mario Macola!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Aafke Stam and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Macola has managed to clinch.
Mason drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Macola gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Macola tries for a takedown. No joy.
Mason is looking to take this one to the mat.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Macola takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Macola is working for takedown but Mason is calmly controlling the position for now.
Macola is trying to drag Mason to the mat but Mason just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Tomas Mason has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mario Macola.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Macola drags the fight down to the ground.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Mason postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Macola has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Macola shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mason as he avoids it easily.

Macola gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Macola turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Macola decides to stand back up. Macola steps back and let's Mason get back to his feet.

Mason stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mason wants it to stay on the feet.
It looked like Mason was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Macola wants to clinch up but Mason keeps it at a distance.

It looks like Tomas Mason has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mason is looking for a takedown.
Mason really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Mason is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Macola gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Mason has clasped his hands together around Macola's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Macola tries to improve position but can't.
Mason creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Macola sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Macola bucks up and tries to throw Mason off but instead Mason has got his back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Macola wants to get back to his feet.

Macola is trying to break free.
Mason will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Macola tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Mason thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Mason fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Macola swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Mason unloads with some shots from mount but Macola bucks and avoids them well.
Mason throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Macola because Mason loaded up on that one.
Mason is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Macola can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Mason tries to control but Macola wriggling away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Macola tries to close the distance and clinch but Mason swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Macola looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Mason!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mason is looking for a sweep.
You can see the frustration on Mason's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Macola stands up and beckons Mason to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Mason gets tackled into the cage by Macola. Macola maintains the clinch.

Mason wants to take the fight to the mat but Macola manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Mason tries to score a body lock takedown but Macola shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Mason has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Macola after a bit of a struggle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mason drops down looking for an ankle pick but Macola pulls his leg out and moves away.

Macola has his foot on Mason's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mason works his way back into a safe position though.

Macola shoots in but Mason avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Macola feints and as Mason raises his hands in defense, Macola changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Macola is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Mason throws a right hand that Macola ducks under and follows up with a left that Macola also avoids with ease.

Macola throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Macola manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mason on his heels. He'll look to pass Mason's guard now, I'm sure.

Mason wants to get back to his feet but Macola passes into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

I think Macola has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
