Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Edward Alvarado (ranked 21586 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Smithson (ranked 24908 p4p, 0 weight class). Smithson has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Matt Smithson will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

and Alvarado counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Smithson is working an open guard so Alvarado takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Smithson throws out a counter right but Alvarado avoids it with no problem.
A looping hook to the body misses from Alvarado. Smithson does a little dance to reset his feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alvarado has hold of Smithson's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Smithson tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Alvarado cranks the arm and Smithson screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Smithson, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
