PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Victor Vasques (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Victor Vasques!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anderson Machida!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Machida looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Machida is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Vasques is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Vasques has escaped and now he's on top!
Machida is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Vasques tries to free his leg and advance position but Machida is retaining full guard.
Vasques keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Machida's head.

Machida looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Vasques passes into side control.
Machida prevents Vasques from moving into mount.
Machida is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Vasques's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Machida actively working from the bottom here.
Machida is trying to maintain the position but Vasques is very close to passing his half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Vasques looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Vasques is breathing heavily.
Machida tries to roll over but Vasques keeps him under control.
Machida makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Machida.

Machida is working an open guard so Vasques takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Machida shoots for a double leg takedown but Vasques sprawls well. He's pushed Machida's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Machida lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Vasques has a takedown stuffed.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Machida bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Vasques manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Vasques is looking for a sweep. Machida is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Machida looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Machida moves into full mount! Vasques won't be happy about that!
Vasques is desperately trying to improve his position but Machida has a good base and remains in mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Machida is in the full mount, landing strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Machida wants to finish this one by submission but Vasques is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Machida.
Vasques is wriggling around trying to escape.
Vasques is working hard here to advance position.

Machida is going olschool here, as he tries to force Vasques to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Vasques shrugs it off.
Vasques is trying desperately to improve position.

Machida is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Vasques has managed to escape the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Machida stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Both fighters circling a little - Vasques finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Machida with a poor takedown
and Vasques counters with a nice low kick that buckles Machida's knee momentarily.

Vasques drives through and clinches with Machida against the cage.
Machida can't get the takedown.
Victor Vasques has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anderson Machida.
Machida is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Vasques pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Machida jumps guard.

Machida looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Machida is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Machida looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Vasques has picked Machida up and slammed him! Machida can't keep hold of the triangle and Vasques manages to pass to side control!

Vasques is working to tighten is grip on Machida's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Machida has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Vasques is really squeezing tight and eventually Machida passes out! Vasques breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Victor Vasques!
