Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mikal Reddick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gary Saxton!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Alexandre Firmino and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saxton gets a clinch.
Saxton digs a right hand underneath Reddick's ribcage. Reddick let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Reddick fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Reddick tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Saxton just stands there and leans against the cage.
Saxton creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Reddick's defenses.
It looks like Mikal Reddick has been cut.
Reddick jumps guard but Saxton turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mikal Reddick. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Saxton is trying to stall.
Saxton is pushing Reddick up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Saxton misses with an elbow over the top.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Saxton.
Reddick tries to pull guard but Saxton holds him up against the cage and eventually Reddick drops back down to his feet.
Saxton lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Reddick.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Saxton wants to get back to striking at distance but Reddick won't allow it.
Saxton is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Reddick manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Saxton content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Reddick has locked up a guillotine! Reddick's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Saxton is holding on here and Reddick must be using up a lot of energy. Saxton has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Reddick gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
