Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mario Santana!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Santana bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Santana wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jenkins, who protects the arm well.
Jenkins is trying to get back to his feet.
Santana trying to control the action but Jenkins is working from the bottom.
Jenkins is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Santana's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Santana in particular looking to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Santana is trying to work for a kimura but Jenkins is defending well.
Santana is trying to control the action in half guard but Jenkins is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Jenkins is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Jenkins has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Santana is proving hard to escape from.

Jenkins postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Santana is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Jenkins, into his guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Santana tries to free his leg and advance position but Jenkins is retaining full guard.
Santana should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Santana passes into half guard.
Jenkins is staying active underneath Santana, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Jenkins tries to roll over but Santana keeps him under control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jenkins is looking to escape.

Santana wants to work for an arm triangle but Jenkins is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Santana darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Jenkins scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Santana manages to mount him!
Santana can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jenkins is looking to escape.

Well, if Santana is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jenkins wants to get back to full guard.

Santana lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Santana seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jenkins does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Santana is looking to take a break and control but Jenkins is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Jenkins is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Santana pulls his head out easily.

Jenkins wants to improve his position but Santana is controlling well.

Santana is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jenkins doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Santana.

Let's hope that Santana has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Jenkins is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Santana manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Jenkins on his heels. He'll look to pass Jenkins's guard now, I'm sure.
Jenkins is looking to sweep but instead, Santana has passed into half guard.
Jenkins is trying to control but can't.

Santana is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Santana working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Santana is looking to stall here but Jenkins recovers full guard.
Jenkins can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Santana controls the pace.
Santana looking to sit in guard and control but Jenkins gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Santana has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Jenkins is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Santana.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Mario Santana will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Santana. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Santana holds on and takes a little breather.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jenkins wanted to stand there but Santana had control of the position.
Santana has his hands on Jenkins's head, controlling the position.
Jenkins makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Jenkins is looking to work some ground and pound but Santana has wrist control.

Santana shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Jenkins is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Santana has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Santana connects with a couple of short punches.
Jenkins will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Filiberto Jenkins has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mario Santana is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Santana must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Santana is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
