Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bartlomiej Jan (ranked 21733 p4p, 279 weight class) and Hakuin Rinzai (ranked 2833 p4p, 148 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Bartlomiej Jan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hakuin Rinzai!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Donald Grub and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jan throws a series of punches but Rinzai moves out of range.
A nice side step and Rinzai releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Jan moves out of range of the strikes.
A punch lands to the side of Jan 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Rinzai is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Jan moves out of range of the strikes.
Jan looks to score with a jab to the body but Rinzai is just out of range.
Hakuin Rinzai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jan tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rinzai throws a counter combo.
Rinzai throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jan misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Jan avoids the head kick by Rinzai.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jan scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Jan throws a hook to the side of Rinzai's head but Rinzai sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Rinzai lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Jan has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Jan and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Rinzai takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Jan misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jan backing away here, and Rinzai unleashes a leg kick that just misses.

Rinzai takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Jan throws a sloppy head kick and Rinzai moves out of range easily.
Rinzai swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Jan.
Rinzai throws a leg kick but Jan moved away.
Jan throws the kick towards the body but Rinzai avoids it.
No joy there for Jan, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Jan tries to clinch but Rinzai is having none of it.
Rinzai appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Good work by Jan as he checks the leg kick.
Some bone on bone action there as Jan checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Hakuin Rinzai is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rinzai throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Rinzai throws a lazy right hand but Jan sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Jan tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Rinzai manages to circle out of the way.
Rinzai looks to throw the jab but Jan is out of range.
An attempted straight right counter from Jan misses the target.
Jan bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Jan changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Jan gets a clinch.

Jan pulls Rinzai into guard.
Rinzai pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jan is keeping the position for now.
Jan wants to get back to his feet but Rinzai is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Jan keeping moving, preventing Rinzai from controlling successfully.
Jan wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Rinzai manages to pass to side control.
Jan is trying to stand.
Rinzai content to control rather than advance.

Rinzai wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jan keeps working.
Rinzai is taking a breather. Jan says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Jan is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at London MMA Club that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Rinzai prevents Jan from standing back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rinzai throws a sloppy head kick and Jan moves out of range easily.
Rinzai misses the jab.

Jan throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Rinzai tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jan is in Rinzai's guard.

Rinzai is working an open guard so Jan takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Jan slips a jab and a cross from Rinzai.

Jan moves into the clinch successfully.

Jan pulls Rinzai into guard.
Rinzai trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Jan manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!


Jan gets to his feet - Rinzai follows without any prompting.
Jan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
It seemed like Rinzai was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bartlomiej Jan dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Rinzai throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Rinzai throws a hook but Jan avoids it easily.
Rinzai tries to work over Jan's front leg with a kick but Jan checks it.
Jan moves out of range as Rinzai throws a body kick.

Jan moves into the clinch successfully.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Rinzai in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.
Rinzai misses with a hook to the ribs.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Rinzai.

Jan successfully pulls guard.

Jan pushes Rinzai off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Rinzai throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
As Rinzai tries to get set, Jan tries to push him back and clinch up but Rinzai manages to avoid the attempt.
Jan tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rinzai defends well and Jan ends up having to push Rinzai into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Rinzai throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Jan counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Rinzai blocks a head kick by Jan.
Bartlomiej Jan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Jan ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Jan darts in and clinches Rinzai up against the cage.
Jan jumps guard but Rinzai turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Jan pulls guard effortlessly.
Jan being controlled here, momentarily.
Rinzai is pushing down on Jan's leg trying to pass to half guard. Jan is fighting to maintain full guard but Rinzai has managed to sneak the leg through.
Rinzai takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Jan is trying to stand.

Rinzai is looking to take a break and control but Jan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rinzai keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Jan wants to get back to his feet.
Rinzai is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Rinzai's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Jan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Jan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Rinzai stops Jan from passing to mount.
Jan controls the position.

Jan stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Rinzai throws a shot from downtown. Jan moves away and avoids it.
Jan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rinzai can do to turn this around?
Jan thuds his shin into the meat of Rinzai's side.

Rinzai pivots, looking for a leg kick but Jan is out of range and Rinzai settles back down.
Jan tries to clinch up but Rinzai circles away and keeps his distance.
Hakuin Rinzai seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Rinzai missing with a left hand there. Jan was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Jan is looking to counter punch.
Jan misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Rinzai misses with a right hand
and Jan counters with a three punch combo that has Rinzai backing up. Rinzai nods at Jan to acknowledge the strikes.
Rinzai misses the shot to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rinzai looks to land a right hand but Jan moved out of range.

Rinzai gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Jan gets to his feet. Rinzai looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Jan wants to slow Rinzai down by chopping away at his legs.

That's time! Jan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Rinzai tries to score with a low kick but Jan moves his leg out of the way.
Rinzai throws a leg kick but Jan checks it.
Rinzai avoids a punch combination nicely.
Rinzai swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Jan seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Jan tries to clinch but Rinzai is having none of it.
Rinzai connects with a good right hand that stumbles Jan. Jan circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Jan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Jan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Jan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rinzai keeps working.

Rinzai tries to bench press Jan off him but Jan keeps the position.

Jan decides to stand back up. Jan steps back and let's Rinzai get back to his feet.
Jan ducks under a wild hook from Rinzai.
Jan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rinzai manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Jan uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Rinzai.
Jan appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Rinzai sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Rinzai does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Jan misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Rinzai misses with an uppercut. Jan saw that one coming.
A looping hook to the body misses from Rinzai. Jan does a little dance to reset his feet.

Jan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jan misses with an attempted mid kick.
Rinzai misses with a hook. Jan ducked under it nicely.
Jan misses with a two punch combination.

Jan has closed the distance and engaged Rinzai in a clinch.
Jan tries to pull guard but Rinzai forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Jan jumps into guard, dragging Rinzai to the mat.

Rinzai is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Jan fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Rinzai to the ground. Jan is now in Rinzai's guard.

Jan throws a big counter combination but Rinzai scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Rinzai throws a jab when Jan was well out of range.
As Rinzai looks to move away, Jan throws a big counter combo but Rinzai just gets out of the way.

Jan moves into the clinch.
Bartlomiej Jan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Jan pulls guard successfully.
Rinzai won't allow Jan to get back to his feet.
Bartlomiej Jan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rinzai trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Rinzai advances position into side control!
Jan is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Rinzai has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Jan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jan is not content to let Rinzai control the position.
Jan seems a little lost for a moment, as Rinzai dominates the positioning.

Well Jan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
