The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blatt fails with the takedown.
Blatt looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Blatt will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Shepherd is looking to counter the offense by Blatt and move into the clinch.

and Shepherd counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Blatt is looking to get back to is feet but Shepherd passes into side control.
Teddy Shepherd has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bill Blatt.

Shepherd stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Shepherd slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Blatt is working an open guard so Shepherd takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Blatt circles away from the clinch attempt.
Blatt is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.
A jab lands there for Shepherd.
Shepherd wants to clinch.
Blatt moves out of range of the body kick from Shepherd.
Blatt only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Shepherd avoids a punch combination nicely.
Shepherd tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Blatt manages to circle out of the way.

Blatt forces Shepherd back against the cage and clinches.

Shepherd manages to pull guard.

Shepherd has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Blatt is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Shepherd takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Shepherd shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Blatt's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Shepherd stands up and waves to Blatt to follow him.

Shepherd shoots in and bounces Blatt off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Blatt is looking to stand back up but Shepherd counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Blatt.

Shepherd stands up and beckons Blatt to join him on the feet.

Shepherd changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Blatt looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Blatt tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

Blatt is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Shepherd is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Blatt is forced to tap! Great finish!
