Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johnnie Carver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Doc Robert!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Robert goes for a takedown in the clinch but Carver prevents it.
Robert tries for a takedown but Carver manages to get underhooks.
Robert tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Carver smiles and moves away.
Johnnie Carver has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Doc Robert.
Robert doesn't manage to clinch there - Carver circles away.

Robert clinches up against the cage.

Carver has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Robert uses from the top position.
Robert throws a big elbow that misses.
Carver keeping moving, preventing Robert from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Robert working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Carver could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Carver tries to get to full guard but Robert has control of the leg.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Robert stalling away here and it's allowed Carver to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Robert controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Carver thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Robert shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Robert was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

We've been informed that Robert has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Robert wants to control but Carver is keeping him busy.

Robert stands up and beckons Carver to his feet.

Robert decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Robert is pressing down on Carver's thigh, looking to free his foot. Carver is holding on for now.
Robert uses his free foot to push down on Carver's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Carver.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Doc Robert dominated that round.

Robert is trying hard to land a takedown here. Carver sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Robert or perhaps it was just good defense by Carver, which made it look bad.

Carver tries to close the distance and clinch but Robert swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Carver is trying to break the clinch but Robert is controlling him.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Carver forces Robert back against the cage and clinches.

Robert advances position into side control!

Robert swings around for an armbar but Carver sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Robert's guard.
Robert is breathing heavily.
Robert pulls Carver in close to prevent any damage.
Robert not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Carver thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Carver got a little sloppy there for a moment and Robert has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Carver has managed to get both his arms back between Robert's legs - danger averted.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Robert had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Carver defends it easily.
Doc Robert has got the better of the ground game so far.
Carver trying to stand up but can't free himself from Robert's guard.

Robert looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Carver wants to stand but Robert has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Carver distracts Robert with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Carver knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Robert on the ground.

Robert has his foot on Carver's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Carver works his way back into a safe position though.

Carver might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Robert is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Carver wants to get up but he can't break Robert's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That was a close second round but I would say that Johnnie Carver will probably get the nod.

Carver ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Carver no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Robert wants to stand but Carver is controlling his posture from full guard.

Carver is squirming around, avoiding Robert's attempts to control the action.

Robert swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Carver is now in Robert's guard. A big mistake from Robert there, giving up the dominant position!

Robert escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carver gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Robert has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Carver can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
