PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Danilo Patrick (ranked 7305 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ramon Valdez (ranked 4990 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Danilo Patrick has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Danilo Patrick seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, John Kavanagh and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patrick throws a low kick but Valdez moves out of range easily.
Patrick swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Valdez moves in looking to clinch but Patrick pushes him off.

Valdez closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Patrick is looking to improve his position.
Valdez thows a huge punch but Patrick dodges it nicely.

Patrick is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Valdez pulls his head out easily.
Valdez is thwarting Patrick's attempts to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Valdez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Patrick does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Valdez seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Patrick's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Valdez is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Valdez is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Patrick has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Valdez wants to control the pace but Patrick is squirming around nicely.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Patrick throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Patrick tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Valdez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Valdez gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Patrick manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Valdez throws a head punch that misses.

Valdez successfully pulls guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Patrick loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Valdez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Patrick has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Valdez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Patrick is controlling him.

Valdez uses his free foot to push down on Patrick's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Patrick.

Valdez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Patrick can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Valdez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Patrick manages to get himself to full guard.

Patrick knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Valdez on the ground.

Valdez wants to control from the top but Patrick keeps moving.

Valdez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Valdez cracks Patrick with a solid left hand.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Ramon Valdez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Valdez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Valdez cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Patrick tries to lock up and control but Valdez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Valdez manages to capitalize on a mistake by Patrick to take his back!
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Valdez's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Valdez is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Patrick is defending well though. Valdez let's go of the attempt for now.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
