PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Darnell Cane (ranked 1101 p4p, 141 weight class) and Aloysius Wiremu (ranked 1290 p4p, 162 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Wiremu's choice of entrance music: Billy Joel - The River of Dreams. Aloysius Wiremu is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Darnell Cane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aloysius Wiremu!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Wiremu. Cane does a little dance to reset his feet.
Cane misses with a looping right.
Cane shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Cane has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Team Croatia in the buildup to the fight.
Wiremu lands with a slapping head kick.
Cane getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Wiremu on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Cane throws a hook to the side of Wiremu's head but Wiremu sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Wiremu throws a nice outside leg kick.
Wiremu motions for Cane to come forward. Wiremu throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Wiremu throws a head kick but Cane moves out of range.
Cane takes a head kick and shrugs it off.


It looks like Darnell Cane has been cut.
Wiremu throws a shot from downtown. Cane moves away and avoids it.
Wiremu misses with a body shot.
Darnell Cane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wiremu scores with a jab to the body.
Wiremu misses with an uppercut.
Cane swings widly with a right hand
and Wiremu counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Cane thinking.
Cane thuds a left hand into Wiremu's body.
Cane rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Wiremu cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Cane connects with a nice looking jab.
Cane tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Cane takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

and Cane counters with a takedown into side control.
Cane landing strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The ground and pound from Cane seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Cane goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Wiremu has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Cane but great work by Wiremu.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wiremu is looking to take a break and control but Cane is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Wiremu tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Cane is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

You can see the frustration on Cane's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Cane is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Wiremu tries to score with some ground and pound. Cane controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Cane wants to control but Wiremu postures up.
What's Cane going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Cane struggling a bit here.
Cane regains half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wiremu in particular looking to stall.
Cane is trying is best to control the position here.
Wiremu wants to take a breather but Cane is having none of it.
Cane is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Wiremu's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Wiremu's back!
Wiremu covers up after that shot from Cane.
Cane struggling to land strikes to the head as Wiremu covers up.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Wiremu trying to control the position but Cane manages to sink in the hooks.
Cane thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
Cane scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Cane has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Cane is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Wiremu has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Can Wiremu hold on?! Cane is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.

Wiremu tries to escape but Cane has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Cane scores with punches and elbows.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Even with his hooks in, Cane manages to miss with strikes from the back.
Wiremu just trying to survive but Cane is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Cane throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.
Cane throwing sloppy strikes.
Cane is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Cane gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Cane gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Cane apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Cane moves in looking to clinch but Wiremu pushes him off.
Wiremu sizes up Cane with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wiremu uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Cane.

Cane moves out of the way of the counter high kick fromWiremu.

Cane takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Wiremu tries to clinch but Cane is having none of it.
Cane fails to land with a series of punches.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Wiremu! But no joy.

Cane lands with a cross.
Aloysius Wiremu seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Wiremu misses with a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wiremu ducks right into an uppercut from Cane.
Cane lands a head shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cane throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Wiremu works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Cane thows a huge punch but Wiremu dodges it nicely.

Wiremu is looking for a sweep. Cane is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Wiremu keeps trying to improve his position.
Cane takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.


Wiremu is rocked!
Cane is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Wiremu is hurt! He's hurt bad - Cane fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Wiremu from any more punishment! Congratulations to Cane! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Darnell Cane!
A less than humble Darnell Cane misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
