PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sung Guerra (ranked 24741 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew Roy (ranked 5815 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sung Guerra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matthew Roy!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, John Roberts and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guerra tries to clinch but Roy moves away

and Roy counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Roy's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Guerra escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Roy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Roy got a little sloppy there for a moment and Guerra has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Roy has managed to get both his arms back between Guerra's legs - danger averted.
Roy chips away with some ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Roy lands a couple of elbows.
Roy passes Guerra's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Roy stalling.

Roy decides to stand and escape the position.
Guerra fails with the takedown.
Roy looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Guerra is fending him off so far but Roy persists. Nope, Guerra circles away and we're back to standing.

Guerra dives in and grabs Roy's left leg, looking for a takedown. Roy pushes down on Guerra's head and hops out.

and Roy counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sung Guerra. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Roy turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Roy manages to end up in side control.
Guerra tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Guerra is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Roy.

Roy is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Roy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Guerra displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Roy.
Roy cracks Guerra with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Guerra closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Roy's guard.
Roy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Roy wants to stand but Guerra is controlling the position.
Guerra really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Guerra shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Roy sprawls well. Roy wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Guerra gets slowly back to his feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Roy pulls guard.

Roy is continuing to stall.

Guerra stands up and waves to Roy to follow him.
Roy has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Roy looking to score a takedown here. Guerra is defending well but Roy drives through and ends up in Guerra's guard.
Roy is breathing heavily.
Roy controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Guerra isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Roy stacks Guerra on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Roy!

Roy tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Roy has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Guerra tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Matthew Roy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Guerra shoots for a double leg takedown but Roy sprawls well. He's pushed Guerra's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Roy stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Roy wants it to stay on the feet.

Roy defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Guerra.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Guerra gets tackled into the cage by Roy. Roy maintains the clinch.

Roy has hold of one of Guerra's legs. Guerra is fighting the takedown attempt but Roy gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Sung Guerra is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Roy fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Guerra to the ground. Roy is now in Guerra's guard.

Roy is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Matthew Roy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Roy has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
