PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Everette Evans (ranked 24519 p4p, 0 weight class) and Connor McGregor (ranked 4813 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Everette Evans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Connor McGregor!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Francis DeMontford and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by McGregor.

McGregor is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Evans is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
McGregor trying to control the action but Evans is working from the bottom.
Evans could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
McGregor is working Evans over with some ground and pound from side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Evans dodges the ground and pound from McGregor.

Evans is trying to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McGregor tries to score with some ground and pound. Evans controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Evans is not content to let McGregor control the position.
McGregor looking to control but instead Evans has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
McGregor trying to control from Evans's half guard. Evans has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Evans has his hands on McGregor's head, controlling the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Evans is on top in guard.


Evans stands up from McGregor's guard - Evans perhaps looking for a knockout.

McGregor darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
McGregor is just content to waste time from the top position. Evans takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McGregor wants to control from the top but Evans keeps moving.
McGregor looking to sit in guard and control but Evans gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Evans stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Evans is looking to clinch.
Evans misses with a double jab.

McGregor manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Evans on his heels. He'll look to pass Evans's guard now, I'm sure.
McGregor trying to control but Evans is working from the bottom.
Evans tries to land a sweep but no joy.

McGregor wants to control from the top but Evans keeps moving.
McGregor trying to stand up but can't free himself from Evans's guard.
Evans might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
McGregor wants to control from the top but Evans keeps moving.
Evans wants to sweep here but McGregor controlling him for the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
McGregor is stalling in the full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That was a close round but I would say that Everette Evans will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


McGregor cracks Evans with a right hand to the side of the head.

McGregor drives through with a takedown into guard.
McGregor wants to control from the top but Evans keeps moving.
McGregor looking to sit in guard and control but Evans gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Evans is fighting to break McGregor's control of his arms but McGregor is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Evans stands up from McGregor's guard - Evans perhaps looking for a knockout.

McGregor closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Evans quickly recovers to half guard.

Evans tries to roll over but McGregor keeps him under control.
Evans blocking the ground and pound attempt from McGregor.
McGregor stalling.
McGregor passes the guard and advances to mount!
McGregor avoids the attempt from Evans to control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
McGregor tries to control but Evans wriggling away.
McGregor thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Evans is looking to improve his position but McGregor isn't that keen on the idea.
Evans tries to lock up and control but McGregor gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

McGregor trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Evans is hanging on here. He's in a desperate position.
Evans is trying desperately to improve position.
Connor McGregor has got the better of the ground game so far.
Poor strikes thrown by McGregor there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Evans tries to hold on but McGregor pushes him away.

McGregor jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Evans is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Evans and McGregor has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
You can see the frustration on Evans's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
McGregor throws a strike aimed at the side of Evans's head but Evans avoids it well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Evans is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Connor McGregor showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


McGregor throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

McGregor shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Evans is trying to defend but McGregor finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Evans is looking to control McGregor's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Evans avoid being mounted?
Evans is staying active underneath McGregor, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

McGregor seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

McGregor has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Evans can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Evans would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McGregor had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Evans defends it easily.
McGregor takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Evans chips away with some ground and pound.
Evans lands a couple of digs.

Evans gets to his feet - McGregor follows without any prompting.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McGregor tries to land a front kick but Evans steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Evans pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Evans gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
McGregor must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Evans is controlling McGregor's posture.
McGregor trying to control the position from guard on top but Evans is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McGregor wants to pass the guard but Evans is keeping the position.

Evans is pulling down on McGregor's head to control his posture.
McGregor trying to control but Evans is working from the bottom.
McGregor is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Evans gets caught napping as McGregor dives in and scores a takedown. Evans manages to retain guard.
Evans has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Evans looking for a sweep. Not yet Evans, not yet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Evans lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Connor McGregor.
Well McGregor has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
