Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Fonzi Gomez (ranked 3817 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jai Hale (ranked 23120 p4p, 0 weight class). Jai Hale is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Fonzi Gomez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jai Hale!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Wagner Zegers and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hale keeps the fight on the outside.
Fonzi Gomez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hale misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gomez tries to clinch there but Hale circles away.
Gomez shoots in looking for a takedown. Hale tries to sprawl out of it but Gomez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hale manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
It seemed like Hale was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Gomez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Hale has control of Gomez's left arm, preventing Gomez from doing any damage.
Gomez won't allow Hale to get back to his feet.
Gomez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gomez wants to control from the top but Hale keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Hale is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gomez is aware though and is defending well.

Hale really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gomez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gomez drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hale manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gomez has Hale in his guard.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Hale working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Hale got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gomez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hale has managed to get both his arms back between Gomez's legs - danger averted.

Gomez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hale gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hale wants to get up but he can't break Gomez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Gomez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hale can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hale postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Gomez had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hale defends it easily.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hale connects with a nice short shot to Gomez's temple.

Gomez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hale's waist but Hale gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gomez off to one side.
Hale stuffs the takedown attempt from Gomez. Gomez gets slowly back to his feet.
A head kick misses from Gomez.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jai Hale showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Gomez has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hale is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gomez.
Hale in side control, just content to control the action for now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Hale is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Gomez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hale wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Gomez is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Hale is controlling him well.

Hale tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Hale's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Gomez takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Gomez tries to lock up and control but Hale gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gomez somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!

Hale has closed the distance and engaged Gomez in a clinch.

Hale is trying to trip Gomez. He has hold of a leg but Gomez is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Hale persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Hale stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gomez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hale is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Well Hale has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
