PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rodimus Prime (ranked 4401 p4p, 158 weight class) and Ariel Ortega (ranked 4115 p4p, 150 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rodimus Prime!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ariel Ortega!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Valeri Chadov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Prime lands a high kick!


It looks like Ariel Ortega has been cut.

Ortega shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Prime napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Prime sneaks out the side door and pushes Ortega away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Ortega dives in and scores a takedown into Prime's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Prime looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Prime wants to get back to his feet but Ortega is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Prime looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ortega is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ortega prevents Prime from getting back to his feet.

Ortega decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Prime throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ortega was covering up waiting for the punch and Prime finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Ortega wants to stand but Prime is controlling the position.
Prime looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Ortega pushes Prime off and gets back to his feet.

Ortega shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Prime makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Ortega looks winded!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ortega is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Prime's half guard.
Prime has his hands clasped together around Ortega's back. He's all about the action.
Ortega wants to stand up but Prime is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Prime wants to improve his position but Ortega is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rodimus Prime dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ariel Ortega's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Ortega shoots for a double leg takedown but Prime sprawls well. He's pushed Ortega's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Ortega tries for a takedown but Prime sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Prime.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Prime enables Ortega to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Prime manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Prime not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Prime is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Prime's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Ortega is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Prime throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Prime has a closed guard, preventing Ortega from standing up.
Prime working a defensive guard here.
Prime wants to stand but Ortega is controlling the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Prime stuffs the takedown.
Rodimus Prime has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ariel Ortega.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ortega.
Prime throws a big counter combination but Ortega scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Prime tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ortega swivels and escapes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Prime tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ortega defends well and Prime ends up having to push Ortega into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Ortega shoots in and gets a takedown into Prime's guard.
Prime is trying to control the position but Ortega postures up.
Prime looking for a sweep. Not yet Prime, not yet.
Ortega wants to stand but Prime has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Ariel Ortega has got the better of the ground game so far.

Ortega wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Prime's closed guard. He's half up but Prime has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Prime pivots and extends the arm, Ortega falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Prime! Well done that man!
