Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mercury Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cassius Slay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones's entrance music is .. A fine choice. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mercury Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cassius Slay!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Slay fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jones, pushing him back against the cage.
Jones wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Slay lands a shoulder strike.
Slay throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Joness head.
Jones is looking to break free of the clinch but Slay has double underhooks.
Jones avoids the elbow strike from Slay, against the cage.
Slay lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Jones escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jones fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Slay on the side of the head.
Slay tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Jones really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Jones throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Slay.
The fight stays on the outside here - Slay looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jones throws a right and a left that both miss.
Jones throws a right hand that Slay ducks under and follows up with a left that Slay also avoids with ease.
Jones throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Slay stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Jones scores with a sloppy right hand. Slay should have avoided that one.
Slay walks forward, straight into a front kick from Jones.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Jones decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Jones is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Jones tries to pass the half guard into mount. Slay knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones trying to advance position but Slay counters by regaining guard.
Jones wants to control from the top but Slay keeps moving.
Jones throwing strikes but missing.
Jones throws a big right hand that misses.
Slay controlling the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jones trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Slay uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jones.
Jones swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Slay connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Slay lands a nice shot that snaps Jones's head back.
Jones swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Slay gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Slay is working Jones over against the cage.
Jones is breathing heavily.
Slay lands a right hand that snaps the head of Jones backwards.
Slay working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Slay lands a left hand.
Jones wants to break free but Slay has control.
Slay's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Slay works on Jones's body with a couple of short punches.
Nice body punch from Slay - that landed with a thud.
Slay makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Jones blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Slay lands a hook that snaps the head of Jones backwards.
A short body shot lands from Slay as the two fighters clinch.
Slay controlling the action here for a moment.

Jones breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jones lands a jab to the head.
Slay with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Jones to score with a decent uppercut.
Jones throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Slay lands a hook that stumbles Jones back into the cage. Slay follows up with a straight and another hook that land right on the button, dropping Jones to the canvas! Slay pounces and lands several unanswered shots - Jones has had enough and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:06 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Cassius Slay!
